Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Silencer Central has moved into its new headquarters at 4901 N. Fourth Ave. It’s holding a party for the community with music, food trucks, a beer tent, games and prizes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 28. Country musician Tyler Farr will perform at 7 p.m. Brandon Maddox started the company in the early 2000s as a supplier of silencers, or suppressors, to the hunting and firearms industries. It has grown to 165 team members – about half in Sioux Falls — and is adding staff.

Sinless Sweets, which started several years ago as an in-home bakery, is expanding to a storefront. The bakery also will serve as a bistro in the space at The Bridges on 57th. Maggy Pickner specializes in gluten-free and vegan desserts and will follow the same dietary offerings for salads and sandwiches. She’s also planning to sell home decor. She plans to open in August.

Lauriebelles has opened in The Empire Mall. The boutique is in the former Bohme Boutique space next to Sneaker Flavorz and G&M Beauty Plus. It’s the third Sioux Falls-area location for owner Laurie Karlson.

Owner Lauren Lavin is planning to wind down her baking business, Bakologie, and change career paths.Lavin started the business in late 2015 after learning to decorate cakes and evolved it about a year ago to also offer cookies. She plans to attend the University of Iowa this fall and pursue a Ph.D. in health services and policy.

Jessica Eck and her husband, Johnny Than, are planning to open Cheezy Noodlez Gourmet Mac & Cheese this month. The food truck’s menu will feature a classic mac-and-cheese, and toppings will include birria, pulled pork and popcorn chicken. Cheezy Noodlez won’t have a permanent spot but will be found in parking lots across town and will be available for events, festivals and private gatherings, Eck said.

One of the industry’s only manufacturers of heavy-duty equipment for doughnut and bakery equipment has moved from California to Sioux Falls. Avalon Manufacturing at 4301 N. Northview Ave. is owned by South Dakota native Troy Enger and his wife, Tamra. They have five employees and would like to double that.

An arcade in Sioux City is moving to Sioux Falls. Gibby’s will be in The Empire Mall in the former Westmoor Music space not far from Applebee’s. It will offer video games, pinball machines and redemption-style games such as Skeeball. Owner Brian Gibbs hopes to open by mid- to late August.

A $161 million orthopedic hospital years in the making officially has started construction on the campus of Sanford USD Medical Center. Sanford Health has broken ground on the new nine-story Sanford Orthopedic Hospital. It’s scheduled to open in the fall of 2025.

Game Chest is closed while it moves to a new location at 2115 S. Minnesota Ave. in the Southway Center. A grand opening is set for June 25. It will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Sioux Falls City Councilor Alex Jensen is the new CEO and a co-owner of Max Muscle Nutrition and Woonsocket-based DakPak. Max Muscle has 67 authorized retailers for its nutrition products nationwide but is closing the retail store it operates at 2320 W. 54th St. N. The company is looking for someone to operate the Sioux Falls market.

Annie’s has reopened in Garretson after a five-year absence. The restaurant owned by Anne Webber is in a former bowling alley on the same block as the original location. It’s open for breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday, serving baked goods, sandwiches, wraps and salads. On Fridays, Annie’s reopens for dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with a limited menu of flatbreads and a giant soft pretzel with kielbasa and beer cheese dip.

Volin’s Racquet & Soccer has a new owner. Logan McNichols, a recent college graduate from California is dedicated to preserving the longtime store’s impact on the community. He bought it from Mignonne Schwebach, who started the retail outlet in Park Ridge Galleria in 1986 with her brother Jamie Volin.

Parker-based Sheep Flockers has added a second food truck and is booking more events in the Sioux Falls area this season. Kyle Sturzenbecher and his mom, Judy, raise the sheep on their farm that, with the help of Kaylor Locker, become the chislic they sell. Sheep Flockers is a two-time winner for the best traditional chislic at the South Dakota Chislic Festival.
