Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Dugan Sales & Service has opened at 1116 W. 41st St. It’s the first expansion for the Watertown-based appliance store. The expansion to Sioux Falls includes leasing a 30,000-square-foot warehouse near Scheels that used to be leased by Montgomery’s. It’s open Monday through Saturday.

Chick-fil-A is starting work this month on its first Sioux Falls location. The national restaurant chain will open a stand-alone site at Empire Place on 41st Street in front of The Empire Mall. It’s expected to open in the fall.

Fernson Brewing Co. is expanding distribution to the Twin Cities this month. The Sioux Falls brewery’s craft beer and hard seltzer will be found on retail shelves across the metro area.

Hy-Vee has submitted plans to open a Dollar Fresh store in Tea. It will be at 725 E. First St., just south of Fareway. Dollar Fresh is like a combination of a small grocery and a dollar store, offering a range of grocery items, a bakery, a dollar section, a “Wall of Value” and ready-to-eat meals. A timeline for construction has not been set.

Amazon has opened its first warehouse designed to support the so-called “last mile” of its delivery process in Sioux Falls. The e-commerce giant is leasing 60,000 square feet of a new building at 800 E. 60th St. N. The project is independent of the larger fulfillment center under construction at Foundation Park.

Jacky’s Burrito Express has opened its expanded seating area. The restaurant took over the former H&R Block space next door in the retail center at 2315 W. 12th St. The new dining room can seat about 60 customers.

A local Realtor has turned a former three-story apartment building into a senior living community. Lewis Landing at 617 N. Lewis Ave. offers three one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom units for those 62 and older. A one-time upfront membership starts at $115,000, and monthly service fees start at $540.

Brushy Creek Gifts has closed its storefront but is selling its curated goods as a vendor at Stacey’s Vintage-Art-Boutique, east of the Tea exit for Interstate 29. Owner Jimmy Rhodes opened the shop at 815 S. Marion Road three years ago.

Chef Dan Myers has closed the final location for Myers’ Deli & More, but he doesn’t rule out bringing it back. The space in the CNA Surety Building downtown is on the market, but if another tenant doesn’t surface before summer, Myers said he’ll consider reopening. In the meantime, he’s focusing on his other businesses: Myers’ Elite Catering and running the kitchen for EightyOne Arcade Bar downtown in The Carpenter Building, which was the home for the first of his two deli locations.

A new software development company started by Michael Zuercher has launched its product. Prismatic is a software platform designed to make it easier for software companies to build integrations and provide a more seamless integration experience to their customers.

Intoxibakes is moving into a larger space in the Jones421 Building on North Phillips Avenue The bakery that specializes in sweets infused with alcohol is taking over the former OG Greens space. The health food restaurant closed in March. Intoxibakes will remain open until it makes the move, which it expects to happen by early May.

New housing and commercial activity is coming to a neighborhood being developed near Jefferson High School. Jefferson Heights is a 190-acre development on the southwest corner of Marion Road and Maple Street. Trademark Homes Inc. is the developer, and work on the site is expected to begin immediately. In addition to single-family housing, Jefferson Heights will have approximately 30 acres zoned for commercial, live-work and multifamily users along Marion and Maple.

Fareway has opened its second Sioux Falls grocery store. The location at 41st and Ellis is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Scooter’s Coffee has opened a drive-thru location at 2205 W. 12th St. Hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Luciano’s Wine Shop at the east-side Dawley Farm Village has a new owner and a new name. Longtime employee Jenna Snyder bought the business from Ray Hoffman. She has renamed it Cellar 54 and added a wine bar. She’s planning to add weekly wine tastings and one higher-end tasting each month with catered food. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The owner of The Midway Cafe has bought a second carnival food stand, The Midway Cafe Popcorn Co., and they’ll operate in Hartford for at least part of the season. Rose Zeig plans to open the original trailer April 21 and the new wagon probably a week or two after that. New offerings will include popcorn balls on sticks, flavored popcorn, gourmet caramel apples, Hawaiian shave ice and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Creative Spirits has closed its studio at 1508 W. 41st St. Virtual classes are being offered, and the business continues to have studios at the Union Gospel Mission and in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Kevin’s Affordable Detailing of Brookings is expanding to Sioux Falls with a shop at 724 N. Weber Ave. For its grand-opening weekend, the business will offer free car washes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, along with free food and drinks. Owner Kevin White and staff will be there to discuss detailing packages and prices and to book appointments.
