Comings & Goings

Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Chef Bryan Moscatello plans to open Harvester Kitchen by Bryan by mid-April. The new restaurant will be in the former Market space in the Harvester Building on Sixth Street east of Phillips Avenue. His menu is still coming together but will include local ingredients sourced seasonally. Hours will be Wednesday through Sunday evenings to start, but Moscatello also plans to add a “ghost kitchen” for sandwiches during lunch hours that will be grab-and-go or delivery.

Cluckin’ Good Chicken & BBQ’s final day of regular operations will be March 31, but the business will continue to do catering – and possibly Saturday night dinners – until a buyer is found. The business will continue to operate out of its space at 3607 E. 10th St.

A new event venue on the east side of Sioux Falls is booking weddings, graduations and other celebrations, getting ready to host bean bag and volleyball leagues and planning other social events. The Social has transformed The Pocket, a dark, aging pool hall at 301 S. Thompson Ave., into a bright, modern venue. The venue can seat up to 300 people comfortably. There’s a space for caterers to use, a bridal suite and a room for the groom.

The food truck Kabab King is adding a restaurant space that will include a Mediterranean market for groceries. It will be in the former Taco John’s building at 1609 E. 10th St. and is expected to open in mid-April. Kabab King will be open daily, and the food truck will continue to do events.

A Dell Rapids-based boutique’s newest store has opened in Sioux Falls. The Mason Jar Boutique took over J.Ella Boutique’s space in The Bridges at 57th. It’s open Monday through Saturday.

Poke Picks has rebranded its downtown restaurant as Fancy Bowl. Its new menu offers some of the same poke and sushi options with additional ramen noodle meals. Owner Kent Chan said he’s no longer planning to open previously announced Poke Picks locations on East 10th Street and at The Bridges at 57th.

A sports bar co-owned by former NBA player and South Dakota native Mike Miller is coming to Sioux Falls. Upscale sports bar Let it Fly has taken over the Turks & Caicos Cabana Grille space at The Bridges at 57th. Let it Fly approached Sioux Falls-based Vanguard Hospitality about taking over the building. Turks & Caicos closed March 20.

A Native American food truck’s expansion into a restaurant is weeks away from opening. Watecha Bowl’s grand opening will be April 9 at 2305 W. Madison St. It won’t have indoor seating but will have a few tables outside in the warmer weather. The restaurant will be open daily from noon to midnight. The food truck will continue to operate.

Sanford Health and Lewis Family Drug will share a new building that’s under construction in Harrisburg on the northwest corner of Cliff and Willow. The Sanford clinic will include 26 exam rooms, with family medicine, pediatric and women’s services. There also will be a lab, radiology, ultrasound and 3D mammography offered. Lewis will occupy 4,000 of the 20,000 square feet in the building. Lewis and Sanford plan to open at roughly the same time in late 2022.

A new Harrisburg business brings outside play indoors and provides a space for kids to explore sensory learning. The Sandlot opened in October at 305 W. Willow St. with an indoor sand area and expanded earlier this month with a little splash room and a new sensory gym created with the help of an occupational therapist. The business offers public playtimes, and parents also can rent the space for a private family playtime.

Dakota Wesleyan University is bringing a new full college-level program to Sioux Falls. The Mitchell university’s Learn & Earn program is a 16-month path to an associate degree with the opportunity to continue on to a bachelor’s degree. The new initiative will launch in August. The plan is to hold classes at a downtown location, which is being finalized.

A secondhand boutique for plus-size women’s clothing has moved out of owner Ashley Dowd’s home and into a retail center. Second Helpings opened earlier this month at 2119 S. Minnesota Ave. Dowd buys used clothing for her inventory, and sellers need to make an appointment to bring in their items. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday.

West Mall 7 Theatres will reopen March 31 instead of March 26 as originally announced. The movie theater in the Western Mall has been closed since Feb. 19, citing repercussions of the pandemic from fewer moviegoers to fewer films.
