Chili’s data breach likely did not affect Sioux Falls restaurant

May 14, 2018

Chili’s Grill & Bar customers in Sioux Falls likely weren’t affected by a credit card data breach because it’s a franchise-owned location.

The restaurant chain began warning customers May 11 that an attack may have compromised credit card numbers used at some of the corporate-owned locations in March and April, according to a news release.

“While the investigation is still ongoing, we believe that malware was used to gather payment card information, including credit or debit card numbers and cardholder names, from our payment-related systems for in-restaurant purchases at certain Chili’s restaurants.”

The company said it has notified law enforcement and is assessing the incident with third-party forensic experts to determine the scope of the incident.

Updates will be posted on the parent company’s website, brinker.com.
