Check out the menu at the new Sunny’s Pizzeria

Dec. 16, 2019

Sunny’s Pizzeria has opened with a menu of 15 specialty pizzas, a build-your-own option and a featured pizza of the month.

The neighborhood pizza shop is between the University of Sioux Falls and Augustana University campuses.

The universities play into the names of some of the speciality pizzas. Augie Blues starts with alfredo sauce topped with mozzarella, bacon, mushrooms, bleu cheese and a ranch drizzle. Cougar Meat is the spiciest of the specialty pizzas. It features Sunny’s signature pizza sauce, pepper jack and sharp cheddar cheeses, bacon, sausage, hamburger, jalapenos, red pepper flakes and a sriracha drizzle. There’s also the Ole Moly and the BB-Coo Chicken.

Build-your-own options start at $10 for a cheese pizza and 50 cents for each additional topping. The 12-inch pizzas have a thin crust and bake in 2 1/2 minutes in the TurboChef ovens.

This month’s featured pizza is “Kevin’s Famous Chili Pizza.” The name comes from an episode of “The Office” when Kevin dropped a large batch of his homemade chili on the floor.

Sunny’s has four tap lines for beer and will sell locally made craft brews that will change.

The pizzeria at 1801 S. Walts Ave. is owned by Jon and Katy Oppold and is named after their French bulldog, Sunny.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to close weekdays, 11 a.m. to close Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Closing times could be as late as midnight but might be earlier on slower nights, Jon Oppold said.

Editor’s note: The weekday reopening time was updated after Sunny’s changed it Dec. 17.
