Downtown’s art collection has grown in a fun — and fiery — way in recent weeks.
Two new pieces were installed at Cherapa Place that now are ready for viewing both day and night.
Color of Memory, a piece that consists of two lighted columns, is part of the riverfront at Cherapa. It’s by California artist Matt Gagnon, and the columns stand 14 and 11 feet, respectively.
Rocks from the Cherapa site were used in the concrete as aggregate and then polished and chiseled. The columns also were built using stainless steel and a powder coated paint.
In the Cherapa Place courtyard, new artwork from Twin Cities artist Atom Pechman is called Cherapa Fireball, a steel piece that stands 74 inches tall and 63 inches across.
It also doubles as a fire pit that will rust as it burns to create a final color.
