Casa del Rey closes after one year under new ownership

Dec. 8, 2025

About a year after reopening, Casa del Rey is closed again.

A sign on the door of the Mexican restaurant at 901 W. Russell St. reads: “Closed until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Casa del Rey has served Sioux Falls since 1980. Former owner Cory O’Brien closed it in the summer of 2024 and then quickly sold the business to the Eining family, longtime restaurateurs who also own and operate The Original Pancake House and Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery.

Casa del Rey reopened in late November 2024.

“It was always our intention to renovate the building and resell it, and that’s where we are today,” Tate Eining said. “We renovated it, we reopened it for one year and tried the concept. It doesn’t fit our portfolio, and now it’s time for us to move on.”

Gift cards for Casa del Rey can be used at Josiah’s.

The building is listed for sale with Scott Blount of Lloyd Cos.
