Business banker grew from summer teller job to commercial lending

June 18, 2024

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Jaden Holzer, assistant vice president — business banking at CorTrust Bank.

Name: Jaden Holzer

Age: 28

Hometown: Sioux Falls

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I was blessed to be born and raised here!

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

First and foremost, I love being close to my immediate family and friends. Secondly, I appreciate that Sioux Falls maintains a collective spirit and small-town feel even as it’s grown. I’m proud that endeavors like United Way campaigns and Forward Sioux Falls are highly successful and celebrated here.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I like that each business or real estate transaction is unique in its own way. It’s gratifying to work with business owners and leaders to work through financing solutions that make the most sense for each situation.

How did you get connected to your industry?

After my sophomore year of college, I had a summer job as a teller here at CorTrust Bank. The following summer, I returned as an intern in the trust department, and after college, I accepted a bank associate position. Once I started working full time, I quickly gravitated towards commercial credit and lending. It’s been a great bank and industry to start my career at.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Community, trusted, invested.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

Despite graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I always have been and always will be a huge Jackrabbits fan.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

I’ve taught Junior Achievement in a fifth grade classroom the last three years. It is such a fun age group to be around and a great change of pace from my normal desk life!

I’ve also had the pleasure of helping out with the Taste the Goodness event the last couple years, which is a beer, wine and food tasting event held annually for the benefit of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. This year’s event will be held downtown on the evening of Aug. 3, and we promise to bring good weather!

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I’d love to get a minor league baseball affiliate in town – specifically with a downtown ballpark.

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

I think I’d invest in some real estate and start growing a portfolio within that asset class.
