Bundt cake business takes last space at Western Mall

Aug. 23, 2018

The Western Mall is full, thanks to a new lease with Nothing Bundt Cakes.

The dessert chain specializes in bundt cakes and is being franchised in Sioux Falls by Bryon and Diane Meyer.

They’re from Sioux Falls, and Diane Meyer discovered the bundt cake business while living in Omaha.

Nothing Bundt Cakes started in Las Vegas in 1997 and has grown to almost 300 locations nationwide.

“My husband and I thought it would be a very good franchise to bring to Sioux Falls and thought it would do very well here,” she said. “They are delicious. Once you try them, they’re amazing.”

The menu includes bundt cakes of all sizes, from bite-sized “bundtinis” and miniature individual cakes to larger once that serve from eight to 30 people.

“It’s the most moist cake you’ll probably ever have,” Meyer said. “We want to be the treat of choice for any celebration.”

The business also can handle weddings, corporate sales and deliveries, she said. All the cakes are baked and frosted on site, which requires a staff of about 20 people.

The plan is to open before the end of the year in the space along Western Avenue next to AR Workshop.

“We love that location because of the traffic that goes through there, and that particular strip mall is so close to Western Avenue,” Meyer said.

The new tenant means the Western Mall is fully leased, said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who represents it.

The property is 525,000 square feet.

Leasing it all is significant, given signs of a softening retail market elsewhere.

“The mall has an excellent mix with anchors such as Ashley Furniture and Scheels and many small shops and restaurants,” Blount said. “The highly visible corner and excellent traffic count make it a great option for businesses to thrive.”
