Aldi is opening its first store in South Dakota outside Sioux Falls — in Watertown.

The retailer plans a Jan. 27 ribbon-cutting for the new store at 2822 Eighth Ave. SE.

It’s part of what Aldi calls an “aggressive expansion plan, keeping the company on track to becoming the third-largest U.S. retailer by store count.”

No information was available about future stores elsewhere in the state.

Aldi has three locations in Sioux Falls.
