Aldi opens fourth Sioux Falls store to large crowd

Dec. 8, 2022

Aldi shoppers now have an option in northwest Sioux Falls — and the neighborhood was waiting for it.

The grocer’s fourth location opened today at 4201 W. 61st Circle N., not far from Walmart and next to the Northstar Grill & Pub.

It quickly filled with shoppers, some drawn by early giveaways and discounts when the doors opened.

The new location is part of the company’s aggressive nationwide growth in recent years, with Aldi on track to open 150 stores and become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of this year.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for five years running,” Matt Lilla, Faribault regional vice president for Aldi, said in a statement. “We have served this community for more than six years and are excited to continue to offer Sioux Falls residents an affordable way of shopping.”

Aldi’s model revolves around affordability. Its 12,000-square-foot stores are designed for a curated mix of products, including some that change weekly.

Customers deposit a quarter to use a shopping cart, designed to ensure they return them and staff don’t have to round them up. Customers also bring their own reusable bags.

In recent years, Aldi has been installing more self-checkout lanes to further optimize staff.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
