Restaurant Roundup: New sourdough bagels, Mash Madness, Half-Baked Mondays

Cafe Breadico has added sourdough bagels and bagel sandwiches to the menu. The four bagel flavors are wheat, poppyseed, everything and sesame. The sandwiches are Nova Lox Salmon on poppyseed; Ham, Egg & Cheese on everything; and Veggie on sesame.

Here’s a chance to try a top five Downtown Burger Battle winner in case you missed it in January. Sanaa’s Gourmet Mediterranean is bringing back its plant-based burger this Friday as a special. The burger took fifth place out of 50 entries in the competition. Hours on Friday are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As part of National Pancake Day, IHOP is celebrating with a free short stack of pancakes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Diners are invited to make a donation to Feeding America. Every dollar donated provides at least 10 meals to help feed those in need.

The annual Mash Madness competition for downtown Sioux Falls begins Sunday and runs until the end of March with three divisions. Competing for top craft beer: Altered Species Ales at Ode to Food and Drinks, Covert Artisan Ales at Nunzio’s Food Hall, Fernson Downtown, Remedy Brewing Co., Severance Brewing Co. and WoodGrain Brewing Co. Competing for top cocktail: Big Sioux Diner & Dive, Blarney Stone Pub, Cascata Italian Cuisine, Crave, Crawford’s Bar & Grill, Dahlia Kitchen + Bar, Fernson Downtown, The Hello Hi, Highball, Ironwood Steakhouse, Jack Rose Social Club, Lucky’s, Maribella Ristorante, Minervas, PAve, Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill, Verde Lounge in the Holiday Inn City Centre and Wileys. Competing for top craft nonalcoholic beverage: CH Patisserie, Coffea Roasterie, Fernson Downtown, Josiah’s Coffeehouse Cafe & Bakery, Perch, Pomegranate Market’s Groove Wellness Bar, The Source and The Spice & Tea Exchange. R Wine Bar & Kitchen has created a Wine Madness competition with a Sweet 16 bracket. It took the top 16 wines and ranked them based on number of glasses sold last year. Fill out the bracket and turn it in by March 7. Points will be earned by guessing which wines sell the most each week and advance to the next round. The top 10 brackets will win prizes. Half-Baked Mondays are back at the east-side Attic Bar & Grill — they never left the west-side location — and the new menu features five loaded baked potatoes.

Chef April Cakes, Confections & Celebrations is having a special soup sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Offerings by the quart will include chicken wild rice, broccoli cheese, tomato bisque, seafood chowder, white chicken chili and Mary’s vegetable beef. The venue is at 3210 E. 10th St.

Panera Bread has a new 10-item mix-and-match value menu. Choose two or more items for $5 each.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews has a new weekend brunch menu that features special pricing on breakfast burgers and breakfast skillets. Plus, there are $20 bottomless bloody marys, mimosas or screwdrivers. Hours for the specials are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The Big Easy menu is back at Applebee’s with three new entrees: Big Easy Burger, Bayou Shrimp Bowl and Bayou Chicken Bowl. Returning favorites are  Bourbon Street Chicken & Andouille Sausage Penne, Blackened Shrimp & Andouille Sausage Penne, Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp, Bourbon Street Steak and Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss Burger. Yakkity Yak Coffee Shack in All American Gymnastics Academy has a new featured menu of drinks.

Buddies & Co. in Brandon has new featured espresso and Lotus drinks.

Granite City Food & Brewery has a new spring cocktail menu.

We listed several fish and seafood specials for Lent last week and noticed a few more.

  • Big Sioux Diner & Dive is serving a Thai Fish Sandwich for $12 every Friday, while supplies last. It’s served with ginger-salted wonton chips.

  • Crack’d Pot Restaurant & Bakery serves all-you-can-eat beer-battered fish with a choice of potato, dinner roll and salad bar for $16 on Friday nights.
  • DaDa Gastropub is featuring coconut-marinated, oven-baked Sambal Cod, which is served with couscous and mixed greens, and fish tacos, which are usually walleye with pickled cabbage, corn, cheese, cilantro, jalapeno sauce and house crema on corn tortillas.

  • Fryn’ Pan has seven options: crab cake appetizer, walleye dinner, walleye bites basket, grilled salmon dinner, Cajun lobster alfredo penne, fantail shrimp dinner and grilled herb garlic tilapia.
  • Invictus Pizza Kitchen’s feature for Lent is a pizza with smoked salmon, lemon cream cheese, mozzarella, capers, green onions and splash of lemon.

  • Morrie’s Steakhouse is featuring a different special every Friday. Last week, it was walleye and chips. This week it’s pan-seared black cod served over a dashi miso broth with maitake mushrooms, baby bok choy and crispy leeks.
  • Perch is serving Salmon Benedict and Smoked Salmon Toast daily through Easter.

  • Red Robin is featuring four new items: teriyaki salmon, Santa Fe salmon, grilled salmon and a crispy fish sandwich.
  • Red Rock Bar & Grill east of Sioux Falls always has an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 9 p.m. Fridays. Alaskan cod is served with fries, coleslaw and a Hawaiian sweet roll for $15.
  • Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews has three $14 offerings on Fridays: fish sandwich, fish-and-chips basket and shrimp basket.

Changes in hours, service

  • Daylily Coffee is open now on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to Thursday through Saturday. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Because of a staffing issue, Candy Cloud Factory and Intoxibakes will be closing at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays until further notice.
  • Severance Brewing Co. begins spring hours Sunday, which include being open again on Mondays and an hour later on Sundays: noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Fit Revolution Nutrition said its Ramadan-related early openings for weekday mornings weren’t “serving our community the way we hoped,” so it’s back to opening at the usual time. Extended hours for iftar of 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays will continue.
