Restaurant Roundup: Pizza at the Farm, food trucks downtown, International Nights

Pizza at the Farm nights are back for the season at The Good Earth Farm south of Lennox, beginning this weekend. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Sundays through August and then 3 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays into mid-October. Each week features a different menu with a few options. Up this week: Fig & Arugula, Ground Buffalo Supreme, Asparagus Mushroom and Classic Cheese with the option to add turkey pepperoni. Fridays on the Plaza from Dakota News Now returns Friday with food trucks and live music. Musicians will be on the 12th Street Plaza outside the television studio, and food trucks will be parked along First Avenue. Food trucks appearing this week are Rudy’s Taco Bus, Schroeder’s Snak Shak and The Ice Cream Truck – SDSU Ice Cream. See the full schedule here.

Parker’s Restaurant Group is inviting diners on a summerlong Passport to the World: International Nights. The monthly events will feature cuisine, drinks, music and the culture of different cities. Guests will receive a passport book to collect stamps at each destination, with a chance to win prizes. The kickoff Friday and Saturday is Beirut at Parker’s Bistro and Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar, Kingston at DaDa Gastropub and Tokyo at Club David. Other cities are Lima, Naples, Vancouver on June 27-28; Mumbai, Oslo and Oaxaca City on July 18-19; Marrakesh, Athens and Havana on Aug. 22-23; and Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro and Munich on Sept. 19-20. The new La Playita Mexican Seafood, which opened in January at 5216 E. Arrowhead Parkway, now has a separate menu for lunch. It’s available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and includes items like burritos, tacos and sandwiches that aren’t on the dinner menu. So far, some of the customer favorites are the Surf & Turf Burrito and birria tacos, said Javier Solis, whose parents own the restaurant.

The Tavern Grill has new menu items, six featured cocktails and a featured mocktail. The new Uff-Da Burger has a wagyu patty topped with bacon, fried pickles, mozzarella cheese curds, gouda and the signature sauce. Other items include walleye fingers, pan-seared walleye, shrimp scampi, top sirloin, bistro steak, spicy chicken sandwich, spicy chicken pizza and the vegan Impossibly Hot Burger. New desserts are tiramisu dip, chocolate cake with whiskey butter, banana pudding and blueberry cobbler.

Nekter Juice Bar has expanded its menu to include protein waffles in four flavors: Berry Shortcake, Waffacado, Go Bananas and Jam Slam. Other additions are Glow Getter, Blueberry Almond Butter and Raspberry Riot smoothies, Radiant Raspberry Acai Bowl and mini and small build-your-own parfaits.

A Homestead Brew east of Sioux Falls is hosting the annual Heritage Fireworks Show on Saturday. The family-friendly event is a fundraiser for Hero Haven. Tickets are $10. Doors open at 2 p.m. The brewery will release three new beers, and Windy City Bites will be there to sell food. There will be games and a beanbag tournament. Too Drunk To Fish will play from 6 to 9 p.m., and the fireworks displays will run from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The Gyro Burger is back on the menu for a limited time at JL Beers. The never-frozen patty on a bun with tzatziki sauce is topped with cucumber, onion, lettuce, tomato and melted feta.

New menu items at Dakota Craft Links are the Spicy Italian Sausage with local arugula, hot giardiniera and fried garlic; Smoked Chorizo with pickled onions and chimichurri; and fried Brussels sprouts tossed in lemon and calabrian chili, and topped with fried garlic.

Fryn’ Pan on East 10th Street reopened this morning after being closed since Sunday night for a remodeling project. Updates include new tables, booths and carpeting.

Altered Species Ales started brewing beer and serving it in the taproom in the Western Mall in December 2024. The local brewery has ramped up production to the point of having limited distribution in kegs to Botski’s Bar & Grill, Ode to Food & Drinks and Pizza Cheeks. Starting Friday, Altered Species Ales’ Cracked Canopy, a hazy IPA, will be available on tap at the JJ’s Wine & Spirits tent at all Levitt at the Falls concerts.

Blarney Stone Pub is celebrating the Timberwolves’ appearance in the NBA conference finals with twofers on bar pours and discounted tap beer, house wine and appetizers during the games.

Lucky Ladz in Crooks has a new special on Mondays. From 3 p.m. to close, get half-price appetizers, including the Critter Bites shown here. Wonton wrappers are filled with a mixture of cream cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, duck, red bell pepper and chive, and then fried.

Popeyes’ Big Box specials are back for a limited time. Get two pieces of signature chicken or three tenders with two sides and a biscuit for $6.

Ribfest is here at Famous Dave’s with several new flavors: Korean Sweet Heat, Maple Bacon, Chimichurri and Sweet Sriracha. There are St. Louis-style spareribs, back back ribs and various combos. The restaurant here expects it will be around for a couple more weeks.

Campfire Meals are back for a limited time at Cracker Barrel after years of customer requests, according to the national chain. The meals are braised in a signature blend of Campfire Seasoning, wrapped in foil and slow-cooked for a smoky, campfire taste. Choices include the new Campfire Shrimp Skillet, Campfire Chicken, Campfire Beef, new S’mores Brownie Skillet and Cinnamon Roll Skillet.

Enjoy the pop-up Pineapple Upside Down Bundlet at Nothing Bundt Cakes through June 1 or as long as supplies last.

Blueberry biscuits returned to the menu at Hardee’s at the beginning of the month. They’ll likely be around at least through June.

The Rush is hosting a celebration of life fellowship gathering Saturday for employee Lisa Randle, who died May 12. The gathering will be after Randle’s memorial service, which is at 11 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home-Southside Chapel. The restaurant then will close at 3 p.m. for the rest of the day and reopen Sunday.

Changes in hours, service

  • SoDak Soda along 85th Street now opens one hour earlier and closes one hour later for summer. New hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Hours at the Sertoma Avenue location aren’t changing.
  • Summer hours have arrived at Sweet Cheeks: Opening at 10 a.m. daily, closing at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • The Meeting Nook in Dell Rapids has new hours: 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
  • Credo’s Pub will be closed Sunday through Tuesday for the holiday and because of maintenance issues.
  • Phnom Pehn Restaurant is planning to be closed Monday through June 2.
  • Yakkity Yak Coffee Shack is closed until Tuesday for the Memorial Day weekend.
  • Kim’s Korner Bar & Grill in Worthing will be closed Saturday through Monday for the holiday weekend.
