This event listing is sponsored by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire.

A contemporary home from a husband-and-wife team is wowing visitors with its custom design, creative use of space and high-end amenities.

Located at 1013 N. Scots Pine Drive in the growing northeast Sioux Falls area, it’s one of almost 70 homes open for tours during the Spring Parade of Homes.

Built by Smart Homes, the 3,000-square-foot, slab-on-grade, four-bedroom home showcases what’s possible — whether you’re looking to move soon, planning a future home or gathering inspiration for your next renovation. And that’s exactly the purpose of the event.

“It’s got a lot of different features and a really cool layout,” said April McCormick, who co-owns Smart Homes with her husband, Vince.

“We do Parade homes nearly every Parade, and I think it’s a wonderful chance to meet people, get ideas if you’re building or remodeling, or just enjoy seeing some really cool houses.”

The semiannual event, hosted by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire, continues from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with homes built by 44 builders throughout the metro area, including Sioux Falls, Brandon, Harrisburg, Hartford, Tea and Wentworth.

The first weekend brought a steady flow of visitors to the Smart-built home, which is one of two featured properties on the tour.

“The Parade of Homes was a fantastic success this weekend, with hundreds of people coming out,” McCormick said. “The feedback was incredible, and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoy the beautiful weather while experiencing the innovative designs we’ve worked so hard to create.”

Visitors to the Scots Pine Drive home are greeted by a luxury foyer with dramatic walnut slat walls flowing from ceiling to floor.

The kitchen stuns with a 10-foot island, Bosch black stainless appliances and custom cabinetry.

“A big hydraulic serving window opens directly to the outdoor pool,” McCormick added.

The home includes a primary retreat with two walk-in closets, laundry in the bathroom and distinctive curved walls that make a bold design statement.

“The entire home has a minimum of 10-foot ceilings and reaches 20 feet in the living room,” McCormick said. “Upstairs, there’s an entertainment room with a 100-inch fireplace and TV, along with high-tech smart tint windows that offer instant shade and privacy.”

She encourages visitors to take their time during the Parade of Homes and explore each space in detail.

“Ask questions,” McCormick said. “We love having conversations with people; please don’t be afraid to ask us anything. It’s not a sales pitch. We’re here to share ideas and help you explore design elements like flooring and paint colors. That’s what we do.”

The Spring Parade of Homes also includes three virtual-only tours. Many homes can be explored in person or virtually through the Sioux Empire HBA Guide app and the Parade of Homes website. For complete information, visit here.

While most homes on the Parade are free to tour, two homes, including the one from Smart Homes, were designated as featured homes, requiring a $5 entry fee. Proceeds support the Home Builders Care Foundation, which provides scholarships for high school students pursuing careers in the building industry.
