Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet reopens

April 25, 2025

Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet has reopened.

The restaurant at 1100 W. 41st St. closed April 8 after multiple people connected to the business were arrested and later indicted on charges of harboring illegal workers for almost a decade.

Owner Hui Weng, manager Min Lin and Jin Ju Pan have been released pending trial, according to news reports.

The indictment alleges that the defendants housed illegal immigrants in residences the defendants owned or rented, transported them to their work and deducted rent and transportation expenses from their paychecks. The workers also had food deducted from their paychecks regardless of whether they ate in the restaurant. In addition, they were threatened with being turned over to immigration authorities, according to the indictment.

When the restaurant closed, it noted with a sign on the door that it was temporary measure because of limited staffing and that it was hiring for several positions.

Today, Hibachi Grill sent out an email and posted on social media that it was open and that it was taking reservations for Mothers Day.

There were diners already eating lunch before noon, though no manager was in the restaurant at the time to answer questions.

The buffet offerings appeared the same as before the restaurant closed.

Hibachi Grill is open daily.

A sign also indicates that the restaurant is still hiring.
