Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for February.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union

Last year, Black Hills Federal Credit Union donated more than $430,000, volunteered hundreds of hours and shared knowledge in the 42 communities it serves across three states. The employee-led Community Action Team organized giving opportunities that benefited 64 organizations across the credit union’s footprint. Employees volunteered for 250 hours, collected 4,610 items and raised $48,500. The credit union also facilitated educational workshops for more than 900 participants, awarded $20,000 in scholarships, donated $41,750 to 25 schools and organizations through its School Support Drive, donated $184,602 to 201 organizations through its sponsorship program that fields requests from credit union members and awarded $150,300 to 70 organizations through its donations committee based on requests from community members.

Children’s Home Society

Fourteen Children’s Home Society employees participated in the Rapid City Polar Plunge, raising $3,020 for Special Olympics of South Dakota. Proceeds will help support 2,700 athletes across the state.

CorTrust Bank

As part of CorTrust Bank’s Season of Giving campaign, for every qualifying digital banking transaction a customer made, CorTrust donated $1 to two chosen charities. At the end of the campaign, the bank donated $2,500 each to Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota and Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest.

Downtown Sioux Falls Inc./Pendar Properties

Downtown Sioux Falls Inc., in partnership with Pendar Properties and 24 local businesses, raised more than $7,300 for the Union Gospel Mission during the Downtown Gives fundraiser. The initiative raised funds through the sale of coupon booklets during the holiday season at participating downtown businesses.

Hy-Vee/Caitlin Clark Foundation

Hy-Vee is partnering with the Caitlin Clark Foundation to support childhood nutrition by raising funds for local food banks across the Midwest throughout March. The Caitlin Clark Foundation Round Up will take place at all Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh Market and Fast & Fresh locations. Customers can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar during checkout with all funds going directly to the foundation, which will work with local Feeding America partner food banks.

Levo Credit Union

Levo Credit Union has awarded $500 each to eight area teachers nominated by parents, students or community members for making a huge impact on kids. Adopt-A-Classroom recipients are Julia Blashack of Roosevelt High School; Garrett Buchanan of Watertown Intermediate School, Watertown; Kelly Enebo of Liberty Elementary in Harrisburg; Amy Lundquist, Lennox Elementary School, Lennox; Jennifer Miller, Morningside Elementary, Sioux City; Allison Rasmussen, Brandon Elementary, Brandon; Jessica Foley, Terry Redlin Elementary; and Rachel Sturm, Jefferson High School.

Sammons Financial Group

Last year, Sammons Financial Group in Sioux Falls donated $1.1 million to local charities, and team members volunteered 3,100 hours of service. That total includes $225,000 given to 18 organizations through the Community Impact Challenge, which allows employees to submit, vote on and distribute funds to the organizations they’re passionate about.
