New business from longtime company aims to ‘elevate’ outdoor living

An entrepreneurial Sioux Falls family went on vacation — and brought back a business idea inspired by their memorable experience.

“During our vacation in Mexico, we stayed in a treehouse, and it was an amazing experience,” said Parker Jones, a third-generation member of her family business, Maguire.

“The cool part was the treehouse was not connected to the trees themselves.”

The treehouse allowed the Jones family to immerse themselves in nature without sacrificing comfort and style. They also began seeing the possibilities of having one permanently — a place to stimulate creativity, provide relaxation or entertain family and friends.

“As a family, we started to discuss how to bring this concept to the United States,” Jones said. “It was an experience we wanted others to have in their own backyard, lake cabin, mountain, forest or any place they wanted.”

The Jones family founded and leads Maguire, a successful national water tower construction and maintenance company. So the family brought this idea to their business development team and asked them to begin working on the concept.

“We started with the photos we had taken in Mexico and a blank piece of paper,” said Jones, who also serves as business development manager.

“The treehouses we visited in Mexico were built for a desert climate without solid walls or traditional windows and doors.”

The other unique feature about the treehouses in Mexico is they were freestanding on steel frames and not connected to the trees.

“We thought this was an ingenious feature,” Jones said. “It provided stability and longevity that building a living space around or in the trees doesn’t.”

As the team worked through the design phase, the name for the project became clear: Elevated Outdoor Living.

“Elevating your outdoor experience is what we kept discussing,” Jones said. “We wanted the brand to feel immersed in nature.”

With that feeling in mind, the Maguire team continued the design of the structure.

“At Maguire, we love a challenge,” said Brian Cooper, vice president of business development. “This was a fun project to work on.”

Each Elevated Outdoor Living structure is a kit made of high-quality, commercial-grade materials selected for aesthetics, efficiency and longevity.

“We sourced the best materials for Elevated Outdoor Living,” Jones said. “From the steel used for the frame, to the aluminum decking, to the insulated wall panels with cedar siding, to the Andersen windows and doors. Quality was one of our top priorities.”

The quality and craftsmanship show throughout the entire space. The kit also has been designed and engineered to meet International Building Code.

“We are excited to bring this new concept to the market and are encouraged by the early interest,” Cooper said.

“Unique outdoor spaces have become popular in the last few years. People understand more than ever that having a place to escape is essential for their overall well-being. We’re already working with owners who are looking forward to customizing their own spaces.”

Elevated Outdoor Living has a kit constructed on the new Maguire campus and is hosting an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 20. The address is 2001 E. Robur Drive on the north edge of Sioux Falls.

“The structure looks great in pictures and looks even better in person,” Jones said. “The entire team did an amazing job bringing this project to life, and the best way to experience it is to see it for yourself.”
