Weekend reclaimed market comes to vintage store near downtown

June 21, 2024

It has been almost a year since Christi Petersen opened Seasoned Style at 824 W. 10th St., and things are going well, she said.

Seasoned Style is a vintage decor store with one-of-a-kind treasures as Petersen calls the unique items in her store.

“Something great right now is that the trend is ‘grandma/cottage core,'” Petersen said. A lot of this furniture is over 100 years old and is still in good working condition.”

Seasoned Style is open for business this weekend. Petersen introduces a new selection and aesthetic every third weekend of the month.

“As I said, vintage is trending, and it is often made with higher-quality materials along with being sustainable for the environment,” Petersen said.

The reclaimed market is open from noon to 5 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The last day of the market will include permanent jewelry vendor Sunday Spark.

Opening the store only once a month has been a good model for Petersen, she said. She has another store in Dell Rapids with two other partners.

“This store in Sioux Falls is my solo venture,” Petersen said. “I need the time in between to work on my pieces too; I reclaim the furniture myself.”

Petersen hand sources about 95 percent of the decor and furniture from flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores and auctions. She also does the refurbishing herself. She locates the furniture, paints, stains and fixes it as needed.

“This first year of opening has been pretty good,” Petersen said. “I am still hoping to expand my customer base and get more of Sioux Falls to know about my unique store.”

Petersen has a different theme every month and often a different color. This month, Seasoned Style has many black reclaimed and rustic items. Last month was “summer lake” themed.

“Junk Fest (at the Nest) was two weeks ago, so this month I have a lot of fun, rustic treasures,” Petersen said.

She pointed out a vintage leggy dresser and a newly painted secretary desk that highlight the rustic theme.

“Every month, I make the place look different, so it is like a new shopping experience,” Petersen said. “I want it to be like a shopping event where you bring a group of friends and come shop for the day.”
