$25 million turkey hatchery coming to Beresford

From staff reports

A New Jersey-based breeding company is planning a $25 million facility in Beresford.

The project from Hendrix Genetics will have the capacity to hatch 35 million turkey eggs. It includes new hatcheries, egg production facilities, a transportation fleet and more than 50 jobs.

Hendrix is a multispecies breeding company and a leading breeder and distributor of turkeys under its Hybrid brand.

“This new hatchery allows us to continue to deliver on our core focus of providing top quality genetics that match the needs of the market and our customers,” said Dave Libertini, managing director of Hendrix Genetics. “This is a critical component of our plan to modernize the commercial turkey distribution infrastructure in the USA.”

The Beresford hatchery will be part of a network of Hybrid hatcheries, including facilities in Kansas and Nebraska.

Hendrix chose Beresford for its skilled workforce, interstate access and local support, according to a company statement.

“We are so fortunate Hendrix Genetics picked Beresford for its new hatchery. I could not be more pleased and excited to have a company of this caliber joining our community,” Mayor Jim Fedderson said. “When you consider that we are getting a quality company, 50-plus jobs, more people living in our town and more kids in our great school system, this really becomes a win-win for the city of Beresford.”

Construction is scheduled to start in August.
