Restaurant Roundup: Changes at east-side Keg, mini Crumbl Cookies

April 25, 2024

The east-side location of The Keg has been struggling with staffing for a long time now and has shifted to takeout only with just evening hours, co-owner Vonnie Larsen said. “It’s just tough getting anybody in there,” she said of hiring. “I don’t think we’ll ever open the dining room again. Lunch could come back.” Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Delivery service will be coming through DoorDash. The video lottery casino is open during takeout hours.

Crumbl Cookies has started selling smaller versions of its cookies one day a week. Stop by on Mini Mondays to try the week’s flavors, which drop that day, in a miniature size. Regular-size cookies are still available that day too.

As the spring days toy already with summer, Maribella Ristorante has introduced a patio-worthy cocktail-sipping menu. The rainbow of hand-crafted cocktails – 14 in all — includes choices like the Testata del Letto with Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila, Aperol, pineapple, grapefruit, agave and Calabrian chile. The Succhiello Fresco has VKA Organic Tuscan Vodka, cucumber, basil, white balsamic reduction and lemon. For scotch drinkers, the Nilo has brown butter-washed Johnny Walker Red Label with Bols Amaretto.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish and Chips will be back in Sioux Falls on Friday. The truck is back to its regular spot at Tractor Supply Co. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wish you could have your own On the Hook franchise? The company announced this week that it is opening its business model to other owners.

Join Look’s Marketplace and Look’s Beer Co. for Maibock Day on Saturday. Stan Dold will sing the official Maibock Day song at noon, followed by the blessing of the beer, Hey Hey Maibock. Special brats will be available all day starting at 11 a.m., and there are official mugs for purchase and filling.

Sioux Falls Chef is adding baked goods from Bourne Family Bakery and will have an open house from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday so customers can sample the sourdough specialties. The micro bakery makes everything from bread and bagels to caramel rolls and pretzel bites.

Oh My Cupcakes is selling May Day baskets filled with several treats. Each basket will have a cupcake token, cupcake parfait, “cake for one,” frosting shot and “spring square” bar. Orders can be placed online for pickup Tuesday or Wednesday.

Pizza Ranch on West 41st Street is giving a free buffet to blood donors next week. The Community Blood Bank will be there with appointment times from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Donors also will get a T-shirt. Schedule a donation appointment by clicking here.

Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen offered customers a note of hope this week as its cleanup/remodeling work continues but no timeline for reopening. The restaurant has been closed since Jan. 30 because of a chemical leak in the Jones421 Building. The post on social media reads: “Hey family! We have had lots of people reach out with anticipation of our reopen date! We are still closed, but will, I repeat, we will reopen! This too shall pass! Swamp Daddy’s 4.0 coming soon. It’s been 86 days and counting. But just know we are focused on forward motion!! Your continued thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. Even the sweetest messages that you haven’t forgotten about us.”

Taco John’s has its own Taco Pizza on the menu for a limited time. It starts with a 10-inch corn and wheat flour crust that’s topped and baked with refried beans, seasoned beef, tortilla chips, a four-cheese blend and Fiesta sauce. The final touch is lettuce and tomato.

Subway has four new wraps: Turkey, Bacon & Avocado; Honey Mustard Chicken; Homestyle Chicken Salad; and Cali Caprese.

The latest limited-time flavor at Nothing Bundt Cakes is lemon blueberry. Lemon cake is baked with wild blueberries in all sizes of cake. It’s available until June 9 or while supplies last.
