New wellness spa includes tea house, salt room, wide range of services

July 24, 2025

A new space that calls itself “a sanctuary for the soul” has opened in east Sioux Falls.

With an array of services, practitioners and classes, Alchemy House at 5001 E. Grant St. offers a holistic space dedicated to relaxation and transformation.

A shared interest in alternative healing first brought owners Jillian Gunlicks and Megan Randall closer together and later inspired them to start a business.

Gunlicks is an energy worker who specializes in Lucia No. 3 light therapy, designed to guide individuals into deep relaxation and expanded states of awareness.

Navigating a difficult patch, Randall turned to Gunlicks’ services for assistance.

Alchemy House “was something that she was really looking for when she was struggling and kind of having her own spiritual awakening,” Gunlicks said. “It was something that she wanted but couldn’t find in Sioux Falls.”

That unmet demand pushed the pair to consider starting the company themselves. Having started multiple businesses in the past, Randall had space available in a building she already owned.  Alchemy House moved in May 1.

To set it apart, Alchemy House prioritizes creating comfortable spaces for both connection and self-improvement, the owners said.

“It’s just a really neat place to hang out and have more of a community,” Gunlicks said. “Instead of just going to a yoga class or a foot soak and then leaving, we wanted it to be somewhere that was open to the public and the community on a daily basis instead of just a destination spot.”

Alchemy House is home to a tea bar, which operates daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. While it serves coffee from The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co., the tea is intended to be the main focus, sourced from the Tea Cellar — a small business in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The signature drink, The Butterfly, is a butterfly pea flower tea mixed with vanilla creamer. Alongside a classic matcha, chai or London Fog, customers can choose from a variety of black and herbal teas. It also serves Songbird Kombucha.

The tea bar itself is a walk-in experience. While it can supplement a class or session, it also can be a completely independent experience.

“Even if they (customers) just want to come in, sit and have tea, they might start to feel the energy of the space itself,” Gunlicks said. “It would feel more comfortable for them to maybe start to explore or open up a little bit to some of the other things that we might offer.”

Services offered at Alchemy House include a wellness room with a sauna, foot soak and detox services and a salt room.

There’s also a BioCharger, which is touted as a cutting-edge, noninvasive energy revitalization system that helps align a body’s subtle energy systems through light, frequency, voltage and harmonics.

Classes include yoga, Pilates, breath work and astrology.

Several independent practitioners operate businesses within Alchemy House. From estheticians and massage therapists to psychic mediums and interior designers, the offered services can cater to a wide variety of needs. Sessions can be booked through individual practitioners or through the class schedule listed on the Alchemy House website.

Three spaces are available to rent for events.

“The main thing we’ve talked about is just being a comfortable space for people to come in and maybe step outside of their comfort zone,” Gunlicks said. “We just want to invite everybody to check it out because I think once people walk in and see the space, they’ll understand and feel comfortable.”
