Walmart revamps south-side store

April 9, 2021

A remodeling project at the newest Walmart in Sioux Falls, the store at 85th and Minnesota, has wrapped up.

“The remodels include several department transformations that will help customers save time and benefit Walmart+ members,” Walmart said in a news release about the projects, which included the store in Brookings. “The upgrades will also complement the measures the company has taken in its U.S. stores to help protect associates and customers from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to Walmart, changes were made in several areas:

  • State-of-the-art electronics department with interactive displays.
  • New tool department with a refreshed look and added variety of tools.
  • New layout and larger assortment in home department.
  • Updated apparel department with new signage and fitting rooms.
  • Improved produce department layout to better reflect customer shopping patterns.
  • Expanded online grocery pickup space, improving speed of grocery orders.

In the store at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue, other visible changes include the addition of a self-checkout area near the east entrance and the expansion of the original area near the grocery entrance.

There’s a new grab-and-go section with sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks near the grocery entrance, and additional “dollar sections” have been added near the pharmacy.
