USD business school dean leaving after 8 years

April 28, 2022

USD Beacom School of Business Dean Venky Venkatachalam is leaving USD for a new role in Boston.

Venkatachalam has been named dean and distinguished professor for the College of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston after serving eight years at USD.

He starts his new role in July.

“The past eight years have been a great experience for me as I had the opportunity to work with an amazing team of talented and dedicated faculty, staff, students, as well as business and community leaders who helped elevate the Beacom School of Business brand with consistently high national and global rankings, enrollment growth and a strong economic impact on the great state of South Dakota,” Venkatachalam said in a statement on LinkedIn.

“A lot was accomplished in the past eight years — new academic programs, executive education, curricular innovations, increased student success, stronger brand presence, enrollment growth, business engagement, faculty and student success and much more. We were moving at breakneck speed, and the outcomes were very rewarding! Together, we showed the power of collaboration in the collective interests of the Beacom School of Business, USD and the state of South Dakota.”

Since the pandemic, USD has excelled at rapid innovation, he added, pointing to the business school’s Coyote Business Consulting and BEST-Sioux Falls internship program for demonstrating “that we are an institution with agility and always caring for our student success, even at the most difficult times,” Venkatachalam  said.

“I look forward to returning to the New England area and continue my efforts to work with their faculty and staff to distinguish UMass Boston to greater heights.”
