A first-of-its-kind community for those 55 and older has opened in Sioux Falls, offering a complete lifestyle of carefree living, personal comfort and relaxation.

The Parkwood, ideally located at 85th Street and Western Avenue, combines the best of senior living services and amenities with fully independent living in a quiet and well-appointed residential setting.

“This active-adult living model is growing in popularity nationwide, and we’re excited to showcase it here. Imagine coming home to one of the most desirable and upscale rental retirement communities in Sioux Falls. Stunning amenities, exceptional dining, best-in-class hospitality and engaging activities,” said Nathan Kasselder, director of sales.

“Our residents are surrounded by lifestyle services designed to enhance their independence and promote social connections, all at monthly rental rates that are sustainable throughout their retirement.”

The Parkwood allows residents to simplify and downsize, offering the benefit of housekeeping services, a variety of options for meals and a wealth of activities and special events.

“Residents enjoy scheduled transportation in addition to on-site amenities like a full-service salon, library, fitness studio with treatment space, indoor theater, club room, game room, guest suite and outdoor courtyards with walking trails and dog parks,” Kasselder said. “It’s all included in the resident’s monthly rental price along with complete and worry-free maintenance.”

Residents also can prepare their own meals or opt for a variety of evening dinner options in addition to an included continental breakfast.

“The Parkwood is going to feel a lot like living in a great hotel with a service-rich culture,” said Kasselder, who has a background in hospitality.

“The building is full of unique spaces and amenities, including its cafe and lounge, upscale dining room, private dining room, wellness studio and treatment room, library, indoor theater, club room, an art/craft and game room, outdoor walking trails, two courtyards, bocce ball court and outdoor theatre area.”

There also will be a wide variety of regularly scheduled and specialty activities, both community and resident-driven such as morning coffee, card and game clubs, arts and crafts, walking and biking groups, spiritual and wellness services, in addition to personal development with local artists, authors, community leaders and inspirational individuals.

Resident parking is available in an underground heated garage with an on-site car wash.

“We will also offer scheduled courtesy transportation in our Parkwood Cadillac on weekdays to help with any appointments, airport trips or local shopping needs,” Kasselder added.

“The Parkwood is not a medical facility, but residents have the freedom and flexibility to invite home health care providers, physical and rehabilitative health and any wellness coaches to work one-on-one with them in their home or in the community spaces.”

Once fully open, The Parkwood will offer 133 independent living residences with 22 floor plan options ranging in size from 438 to 1,616 square feet.

“Our largest two-bedroom units seem to be the most in demand with prospective residents, and many have depositors,” Kasselder said.

“There has been intense interest in the community, but we do still have availability with our most popular one- and two-bedroom floor plans, so we encourage prospective residents to reach out soon.”

The Parkwood is offering a select number of residents the opportunity to be part of its Founders Club – reserved for move-ins who must take occupancy by July. Founding members receive additional benefits like reserving a specific unit or preferred floor plan, five evening meals a month per person for the first 12 months, one year of underground parking, a $500 credit for any moving expense plus dedicated relocation assistance from The Parkwood’s partners at Moving Station, a $200 salon credit, community referral credits for any friends or family and access to exclusive events for Founders Club members.

“We expect to sell out our remaining Founders Club spots by the end of April,” Kasselder said.

“We see residents responding to our philosophy at The Parkwood that the idea of independent senior living should spark a sense of excitement. Of possibility. Of curiosity. After all, the coming years should be yours for the taking. Free from the worry and responsibility of maintaining a house, while free to do whatever you please. And there’s no better place to start doing just that than right here with us — your premier choice for independent living.”
