Tuesday Morning to close Sioux Falls store as part of bankruptcy

Feb. 15, 2023

Tuesday Morning, which rebuilt its Sioux Falls store after it was destroyed in a tornado three years ago, is closing that location, along with half of its sites.

The national off-price retailer has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close 265 stores in “low-traffic regions,” according to a news release. It’s the second time the Dallas-based corporation has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in less than three years.

Store liquidator Gordon Brothers has been hired to carry out the closings.

In Sioux Falls, the closing is expected to happen in three to four weeks, an employee said.

Furniture and rugs are marked down 20 percent, and the remaining merchandise is 10 percent off.

The store is in the Plaza 41 retail center at 2721 W. 41st St. The businesses in it were destroyed in one of three tornadoes that hit Sioux Falls on Sept. 10, 2019. Tuesday Morning  reopened Sept. 18, 2020.

The retailer specializes in what it calls an off-price format offering name-brand, high-quality products for the home, with prices generally below those found in boutique, specialty and department stores.

With the reorganization, Tuesday Morning seeks to “ultimately transform into a nimbler retailer that serves heritage markets in a profitable manner,” it said in the news release.
