Target to discontinue operations of Sioux Falls satellite site
May 20, 2024
Target Corp. is closing a satellite location in Sioux Falls.
The company provided notice to the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation that it is ending operations at 3901 W. 53rd St.
There are 59 employees at the location, and 29 of them “have the opportunity to transfer to another Target position or receive separation benefits in exchange for a release and benefits, including outplacement services,” the company said.
The termination of employment will happen no later than Aug. 2 for those who choose not to transfer or aren’t eligible.
The other 30 employees were told that their positions are being eliminated and a transfer option is not available. They can search internally for open positions at Target and apply or will be eligible to receive separation benefits. Those terminations will start this August and continue through May 2025.
Roles at the office include a director of Target card services, credit card processors, account specialists at various levels and other jobs related to the credit card operation.
Target brought its credit card operations to Sioux Falls after South Dakota changed its usuary laws in the 1980s to eliminate the cap on interest rates and fees. In 2013, Target National Bank, which had been chartered in Sioux Falls, sold its assets and deposits to Maine-based TD Bank and merged into Target Corporate Services Inc., which was a subsidiary of Target Corp.
