Sioux Falls Regional Airport closes for blizzard

March 15, 2026

Editor’s note: The Sioux Falls Regional Airport reopened at 4 a.m. March 16.

The Sioux Falls Regional Airport has closed, with blizzard conditions expected throughout the day.

“The airport has been closed due to ice and snow conditions,” officials posted in a statement.

“At this time, we don’t have an estimate of when it will reopen. Please contact your airline regarding any disruptions to your travel plans.”

Closing the entire airport is rare. It appears to have last happened in 2022.

The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport remains open, but posted airlines have canceled more than 450 flights to and from MSP as of Sunday morning.

Interstate 90 is closed from Sioux Falls to Wall, Interstate 29 is closed from Sioux Falls to the North Dakota state line, as far multiple state highways. No estimates have been given for reopening.
