Shop ‘N Cart buys closed gas station

May 11, 2018

A convenience store and gas station that has been closed for a couple of years at Sixth Street and West Avenue will reopen under new ownership.

Shop ‘N Cart has purchased the property from Stern Oil Co., which operated it as Sixth Street Market.

“It needs a lot of work,” owner Dave Grevlos said. “The building will get a complete face-lift, inside and out.”

He’s planning to expand the building, which will include a beer cave and a room for video lottery, and reopen in the fall. The C-store also will sell package liquor. He hasn’t decided yet which brand of fuel it will carry.

Owning the location next to Terrace Park will be a homecoming for Shop ‘N Cart. “We used to run it about 20 years ago,” Grevlos said. Shop ‘N Cart has been in Sioux Falls for more than 50 years.

The store, which will be Shop ‘N Cart’s sixth location, will be open 24/7 and 365 days a year.

“I throw away the key to the front door once we open,” Grevlos said.
