Sauna Haus closes abruptly, prompts state investigation

Feb. 13, 2024

The abrupt closure of The Sauna Haus in south Sioux Falls last month is being investigated by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

“We are looking into it,” spokesman Tony Mangan said. “I believe we’ve had at least a couple complaints.”

Owner Lori Meyer has not returned repeated attempts to contact her. She opened the business at 1511 E. 69th St. in late 2017.

Numerous customers have reached out to SiouxFalls.Business with concerns over pre-paid services, including some that were purchased shortly before the business closed in mid-January.

“People that have concerns about that business or have complaints should call the South Dakota Consumer Protection Division,” Mangan said.

The number is 800-300-1986, or click here to report online.

A massage therapy business, MassageMeJen, owned by Jennifer Syverson, is continuing to operate out of part of The Sauna Haus space.

Building owner Jason Walsh, who also is a partner in the adjacent Roundhouse Brew Pub, said he’s letting the situation play out before making any determinations about the future of the space.
