Sanford to relocate children’s services to The Bridges at 57th

Aug. 26, 2019

A former dress shop is becoming the new home for Sanford’s children’s services, which will consolidate from several locations around town.

Sanford has leased the 5,000-plus-square-foot space at The Bridges at 57th, which most recently was Elegant Xpressions until it moved into a smaller space at the retail center.

“It’s really bringing everything together in one nice location,” said Sheri Fischer, Sanford’s executive director for children’s services in Sioux Falls.

“We strategically selected this location.”

The new space is in the same Bridges development as Sanford’s Mutch Women’s Center, which already serves new mothers and has some services that will move to the children’s space, she said.

“It’s convenient for our mothers, they love the location, and that’s why we selected this specific location.”

Sanford also currently offers services on its main campus and in a leased space near 41st Street and Grange Avenue.

“We have services located in a variety of locations, and a lot of them are quite small,” Fischer said. “We decided we just need more space, and it’s a great opportunity for us to come together.”

Services offered in the new Bridges space will include a wide range of classes for new parents, siblings, grandparents and child care providers, as well as services for parents such as a safety center. It also will be the home of Sanford’s breastfeeding support services and support line, a new baby support group and Sanford’s Fit Club.

“The majority of this is a community benefit,” said Fischer, adding that while some classes have a small fee most services are free and many are tied to partnerships with the Sioux Empire United Way and the state’s health and human services departments.

“This is unique,” she said. “It’s not something we make money on. This is Sanford’s commitment to kids and how we invest in children.”

The hope is to open the new location in early 2020.
