Restaurant Roundup: Traveling vegan food truck, Zombie Crawl, pizza token ‘haunt’

Oct. 21, 2021

A traveling food truck that serves “plant-based” junk food will be in downtown Sioux Falls on Monday night at WoodGrain Brewing Co. Los Angeles-based Vuture Food will serve a variety of vegan “chik’n” sandwiches and loaded fries. The patties are made from a combination of soy, wheat and peas. Hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. A menu will be posted here Monday morning.

Sunny’s Pizzeria has turned its token hunt for free pizzas into a “haunt.” Every day, it hides a small pumpkin stuffed with a token at a public place in the city. A photo clue is posted on Sunny’s social media accounts at a random time every morning. The promotion runs through the end of the month.

The new Sweet Cheeks ice cream shop said it has been listening to customer feedback and has tweaked its packaging. Now, there are two cup sizes: 16 ounces and 20 ounces. Dividers are available so customers can try more flavors in one cup, and there are domed lids for takeout orders. Flavors rotate every Wednesday. Here’s what new: mint chocolate chip, chocolate custard, caramel pretzel, pumpkin pie and dairy-free candy apple sorbet.

Here’s a chance to participate in a downtown pub crawl/scavenger hunt. The Sioux Empire Roller Derby is hosting a Zombie Crawl fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday for its practice venue. The pub crawl will begin at the Top Hat, where participants will receive scavenger hunt instructions that will dictate their crawl. The fun will wrap up at Club David with raffle prizes. Entry is $10.

The monthly partnership between Lupulin Brewing Co. and neighboring Ruby Tuesday is celebrating Oktoberfest. The exclusive burger for October is a bratwurst patty topped with cheddar cheese, onions sauteed in Oktoberfest beer, sauerkraut and spicy mustard on a pretzel bun. It comes with a side of fries or tots.

Changes in service, hours

KK & Sons Laos & Thai Food posted today that will be closed for the rest of the week.

Saturday is the final day for Cherry Rock Farms. The produce grower south of Brandon is closed until then, taking advantage of the warmer weather to get some projects done. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The pumpkin patch will be open, and here’s what’s available for produce: tomatoes, potatoes, winter squash, cabbage, broccoli, kale, peppers, Swiss chard, herbs, scallions and pumpkins. The farm store also carries products from other vendors: eggs, honey, salsa, jams and greens from other producers.

La India Taina Puerto Rican Restaurant is short-staffed and has started closing between lunch and dinner Wednesday through Friday. New hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. those days. It’s also open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

We’ve had a lot of other food and drink headlines in the past week. Note: The hookah lounge below includes a Mediterranean menu, with appetizers such as hummus and Turkish salad, pita sandwiches and platters with falafel, beef shawarma and gyro.
