Restaurant Roundup: Throwback prices, no Harrisburgers deal, new menu items, BOGO shakes, free pancakes

Safari Bar & Grill in Renner is celebrating its 10th anniversary Saturday with a throwback menu, giveaways and live music. Cardboard Saints will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. Prices are the same as a decade ago!

The owner of The Big Orange Truck has decided not to buy Harrisburgers. “We are looking at purchasing an established place in Lincoln County,” Dean Marshall said, adding that he can’t talk about details yet. The Harrisburg restaurant closed Dec. 30. Owner Nick Lund did not return messages to talk about whether he has another buyer lined up.

Kaladi’s Bistro has a new winter feature menu with the Hail Caesar Wrap, The Kaladi’s Double Stacker, Shrimp Salad and Sweet Chili Linguine. It’s also featuring the new Almond Joy mocha, along with hot apple cider and hot chocolate.

Have you ever tried an Oklahoma smash burger? It’s one of the additions to the Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen. Onions are smashed into the patty, making it Oklahoma style. It also has American cheese, lettuce, housemade dill pickles and burger sauce on a Look’s Bakehouse brioche bun. Other items include fried catfish and housemade pork belly pastrami sandwiches and Luke’s salad with arugula, bacon, roasted beets and carrots, dried cherries, goat cheese and toasted walnuts, with a honey balsamic vinaigrette. Cincinnati Chili, which has a sweeter edge to it, includes onion, beans and cheddar cheese and is served on noodles, is coming to the menu Friday.

Two new pizzas have joined the menu at Obscure Brewing Co. The Peach and Porker has barbecue sauce, pulled pork, onions, peaches and mozzarella. The Meaty Cowboy has pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, olives, jalapenos and mozzarella.

Bee Loved Kitchen has expanded into baked goods and has coco cinnamon vegan doughnuts at Pomegranate Market. Gluten-free options are available too. Owner Emily Wilson is delivering doughnuts to the grocery store a couple of times a week.  They’re also available to order on her website. The plant-based chef also stocks Pomegranate with salads, soups, salad dressings, desserts, granola bars and “bliss” balls.

With MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub closed for several weeks for renovations, Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse down the street is promoting its new Sunny’s Pizzeria offerings. For the next month, it’s offering a pizza and beer or mixer happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. daily. Get $2 off any one of the seven pizza varieties.

Parker’s Bistro has released the menu it’s serving through March 2 at Icon Event Hall while the restaurant is closed for renovations. It’s a five-course, Mexican-themed tasting menu. Reservations are required.

 

There are two locations now to celebrate Freddy’s birthday Friday. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is offering a BOGO special on Birthday Cake Shakes. Use the code FREDDYSBDAY if you order online or with the app. The new location opened Tuesday on The Empire Mall campus, along Louise Avenue next to Burger King. Frederick “Freddy” Simon, co-founder and namesake of the national chain, was born Feb. 24, 1925. He died in 2020.

IHOP is celebrating National Pancake Day on Tuesday. Get a free short stack from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen is closing the restaurant Saturday night for a Mardi Gras masquerade party. Tickets, which are $40, include food, entertainment by DJ Versitile and Cirka Performance Arts. Crafted drinks will be available for purchase. The party starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Get tickets here.  

Zoup is serving buffalo chicken in four ways. Try the Buffalo Crispy Chicken Salad, Buffalo Chicken Grain Bowl, Buffalo Crispy Chicken Mac or the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese.

The Bunker Bar, a new offering in Harrisburg in the former On the Rocks space, has started an appreciation day for military and first responders. They get 10 percent off Sundays.

Changes in hours, service

The Gruff Plates + Pours is open now on Mondays. The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
