Restaurant Roundup: The Denham Special, scorpion pepper cream cheese, winning Avalanche

Charlie’s Pizza is teaming up with Denham and has created a signature pizza for the singer that will be available Saturday. The Denham Special features pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, pineapple, jalapeno and garlic – all served in a custom collector’s box designed just for him that includes his autograph. Fifty carryout boxes are available.

If you love all things spicy, the Bagel Boy on Minnesota Avenue has created a batch of scorpion pepper cream cheese. The bakery said it has been selling quicky and estimates it will be around “for at least another week.”

If you missed your chance to try the Avalanche Battle winner, it’s back on the menu. The B&G Milkway at Harmodon Park on East 41st Street is serving Biscoff Blitz until the end of the season — or while supplies last.  The final day is Oct. 26. The 10 locations in the local chain competed with their special creations in August.

The Human Bean will donate all sales Friday to help fight breast cancer through the Avera Cancer Institute. The Coffee for a Cure event applies to all food and drink. Several pink-inspired drinks are being served all month.

Treat a veteran, active-duty military member or first responder to a free drink at Crooked Pint Ale House through the end of the year. The restaurant is partnering with Anheuser-Busch for the Folds of Honor program. Ask to add a Bud, Bud Light or Bud Zero to your tab, and fill out a sticker for a specific person, military branch or profession – or leave it up for grabs. Those stickers are posted and can be claimed.

The Cookie Jar Eatery is celebrating Hunting Wives Weekend in downtown with a free lefse-making demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday. Complimentary coffee and cookies will be served.

Chef Omar Thornton is having a shrimp boil Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Cooks & Bakers Kitchen. Pre-ordering for $20 bowls are available by calling 605-705-6770.

Stensland Family Farms is celebrating its ninth anniversary through Saturday with $2 ice cream dips and $9 sampler bowls. Check out the “end of season concessions blow-out sale” while you’re there for deals on frozen pizzas, breakfast sandwiches, candy and jerky.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips has several new menu items: French Onion Rigatoni, Walleye Piccata, Chef Lance’s Beef Stew, braised short ribs, asparagus fries, and garlic and herb cheesy bread.

Verde Lounge in the Holiday Inn City Centre has new daily specials.

The Dugout Sports Bar and Grill in Hartford now serves gluten-free pizza. Any of the made in-house pizzas can be ordered with the special crust.

The new Rivage Oak Kitchen is hosting its first dinner event Wednesday, Oct. 22. The six-course Honey Dinner will feature Little Shire Honey as an ingredient in tasting portions of mousseline, borscht, carpaccio, salad, venison and ice cream. Ingredients from several other local producers will be featured. Tickets are $75, and the deadline for reservations is 5 p.m. Sunday.

The featured flavors for October at Oh My Cupcakes are the annual appearance of Ms. Kim to honor those affected by breast cancer, Twixxie, Moo Cow Moo and the Halloween-themed Boogie Man.

The dessert of the month at Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea is orange phyllo cake with blueberry compote.

New seasonal drinks are being served at The Source Coffee Roastery + Taproom. Offerings include Autumn Air, a housemade plum apple latte; Spook Falls, a housemade pumpkin latte, Snuggle Season, a housemade salted caramel rose latte, and Bewitched, a housemade spiced orange black tea. The Source also has added mushroom coffee and a collagen latte.

Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar has created a special cocktail in honor of the Broadway musical “Back to the Future,” which runs through Sunday at the Washington Pavilion. The Hoverboard includes Tanqueray Gin, Salers, raspberry juniper syrup, lemon and mint. Also, Myrtle’s basement speakeasy will be open Saturday, beginning at 9 p.m., with no cover charge. DJ Jaime Bravo will provide the jams.

The fall drink menu at the east-side Attic Bar & Grill and Ass’ociates & Co. includes the Cider House Mule, Pumpkin Pie’tini, Cinnamon Cider Whiskey Sour and Maple Horchata.

City Council Bingo nights are being hosted by Queen City Underground at Club David. Patrons watch the livestreamed meeting and mark spaces on their bingo cards when certain facts, figures or buzzwords are mentioned. The next round starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with social time at 5:30 p.m.

Changes in hours, service

  • Sunday is the final day of the season for B&G Milkyway locations in Brandon and Tea.
  • BibiSol has extended its closing time on Friday and Saturday nights to 9.
  • Cellar 54 has new hours on Saturday of noon to 5 p.m. unless events are scheduled. Groups can request an earlier opening.
  • New hours at Laurie’s Cafe in Canton are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday.
  • One of the iconic roadside restaurants in southeast South Dakota is closed temporarily “to revamp and reorganize operations,” according to a social media post. Whimp’s Place in Burbank opened in 1967 and was known for its steak, broasted chicken and all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs nights. The final day was Oct. 9. “We will be taking a rest, and the doors will be closed until such time we are ready to reopen.” The restaurant left open the possibility of bookings for private parties, special events and catering in the meantime.
