Restaurant Roundup: Taco specials, free subs, treats for moms

Get your fill of Mexican food Saturday at the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Falls Park. Highlights include live music, pinatas and a chihuahua fashion show at 3:30 p.m. Here’s a list of the food vendors: Antojitos Metapaneco, Boki Gelato, European Street Food, Breaking Burrito, Garza Insurance Agency, Hernandez to Go, La Fondita, Monica’s Menu, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Pueblo de Dios, Sabores 502, Taqueria Juanita and Taqueria Sanchez.

The Treasury is having a taqueria pop-up through Saturday for Cinco de Mayo. Find housemade tortilla chips and salsa, ceviche, chicken pozole soup and ground beef or chicken tacos.

Taco Tuesday Rides are back at Scheels and Vinyl Taco, starting May 10. The rides and taco feasts are on the second Tuesday of the month this summer. Meet at the Scheels south entrance at 5:45 p.m. The group will head out to ride the bike trail at 6 p.m. and then come back to Vinyl Taco just south of Scheels for 20 percent off food.

The Name of the Day free sub promotion is back at Firehouse Subs. For a limited time, the restaurant posts a name or the start of a name each day, and anyone with that name gets a free medium sub with any purchase. Thursday’s kickoff was any name starting with “Th.” Find the name of the day here.

Cherry Rock Farms is kicking off the season with a vegetable plant sale. The grower south of Brandon is offering non-GMO seedlings, started with organic soil and fertilizers. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this weekend and next, and 2 to 6 p.m. during the week in between.

Teachers, get a free mini sundae today and Friday at the new Freddy’s Steakburgers & Frozen Custard.

Nurses and health care workers, get a free drink Friday at Scooter’s Coffee.

Here are a few free deals for moms for Mother’s Day:

  • Watecha Bowl: Eat for free.
  • Chick-fil-A: Free four-count mini for breakfast. Note: This offer is valid Friday because the restaurant is closed Sunday.
  • Kane’s Baked Goods & Cafe: Free cinnamon roll for breakfast.

Changes in hours, service

The Cookie Jar Eatery will be closed May-17 while the owners take a vacation break.

Miner Brewing Co. & Prairie Berry Winery Taproom has started summer hours: 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Randle’s Kitchen has new hours: 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, midnight Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, and 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
