Restaurant Roundup: Taco Bell throwback, Strawbale special day, new Sunday breakfast buffet, Thanksgiving dinners

The Enchirito returned to the Taco Bell menu today, but it’s only here through November. The chain discontinued the enchilada in 2013, but fans brought it back in a head-to-head vote with another item that had been dropped: the Double Decker Taco. The Enchirito received 62 percent of the votes, with more than 760,000 fans weighing in, Taco Bell said.

Strawbale Winery north of Sioux Falls near Renner is opening its tasting room from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. “Come enjoy a bottle of wine, $2 beer and specials on gift items,” the winery said in a post on social media. Owners Don and Susie South announced their retirement earlier this year, which included closing the tasting room while continuing to supply liquor stores through their wholesale business. They had a bottle sale another day this fall.

Looking for a new Sunday breakfast buffet with a little drive through the country? Pinz in Dell Rapids added one a few weeks ago. It features eggs a couple of ways, pastries, roasted potatoes, homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, sausage links, bacon, fresh fruit and French toast sticks. It’s served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prices are $13.50 for those 12 and older, $9 for age 4 to 11 and free for 3 and younger. Unlimited mimosas are $12, and the bowling alley has a full liquor license, so bloody marys and other drinks are available.

Last week we told you about the Gobbler pizza at Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza. Here’s the fry bread version that Watecha Bowl is serving at least for the rest of the month. It starts with a sage and mint fry bread that’s topped with mashed potatoes, turkey and made-from-scratch gravy. It’s serve with a side of sweet corn and wojapi.

We know lots of people don’t want to do all the cooking for Thanksgiving, but they still want a full meal. We found three traditional buffets: the Holiday Inn City Centre, the three Fry’n Pan restaurants and Auntie J’s American Soul Food in Lennox. You can see all the details in the menus below:

Several Sioux Falls restaurants also are providing free or freewill donation meals on Thanksgiving:

  • The Rush is serving a turkey dinner with all the fixings from noon Thursday until all the food is gone. Freewill donations will be accepted and will go to The Rush for the Causes to help local families in need.
  • Boss’ Pizza & Chicken at 2111 S. Minnesota Ave. is serving a free to-go meal. Dinners will include boasted chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn. Meals can be picked up from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the back parking lot drive-thru. Call 605-271-2677 with any questions.
  • Watecha Bowl is serving a Native American Heritage Month Thanksgiving Day Feed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. A free turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, candied carrots and a dinner roll will be served to go. There’s a choice of pie or cake, and the meal also comes with a drink.
  • Wileys has two options for a free meal for Thanksgiving. Stop by from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday to pick up a box filled with enough food to cook a family dinner for four to six people. Registration isn’t required but will be helpful. Do that by making a note in the contact box at wileysbar.com. Wileys has at least 40 boxes and hopes to be able to add more to feed as many families possible Get a hot meal to go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Severance Brewing Co. is having a Friendsgiving party with free pizza from Sunny’s Pizzeria from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. There will be 25 large Bangers & Mash With Turkey pizzas and five cheese or pepperoni ones.

Charlie’s Pizza has new daily dine-in and call-in carryout specials. Monday: Buy a large pizza, and get a medium pizza and a pitcher or 2-litre bottle of soda for free. Tuesday: Half-price wings and domestic beers from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday: Large specialty pizza, three cheese bread and a pitcher or 2-litre bottle of soda for $30. Thursday: Buy one pizza, get the second for half-price. For lunch on Saturday and Sunday, there are single, couple and family combo specials from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Single: Small single-topping pizza, one slice of garlic or cheese bread and a beer or soda for $15. Couple: Medium pizza, two slices of garlic or cheese bread and two drinks for $25. Family: Large pizza, four slices of garlic or cheese bread and a pitcher of beer or soda for $30.

Dada Gastropub has a new happy hour. From 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, get $3 bottles and cans, $3 well drinks, $3 off glasses of wine and $3 off signature cocktails. Here’s a look at the new fall/winter cocktail menu.

Bagel Boy on East 26th Street has opened its drive-thru window. A couple of months ago, it also started being open on Mondays. New hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

After disappearing because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the salad bar is back at Godfather’s Pizza. The price is $11 or $7 with a pizza.

If you’re a fan of Kona coffee, the east-side Dunn Brothers Coffee has its annual limited supply of beans in for roasting by the order. Stop in or call 605-271-8038 to reserve your beans. “A cup of our Kona coffee is so silky smooth, very mild and low acidic, with hints of cocoa and black tea. It is truly luxury in a cup!” the coffee shop said in a post on social media.

Lava’s Coffee & Cafe in Harrisburg has been busy crafting drinks for its seasonal specials. There’s a ginger pumpkin latte, brown sugar cinnamon cold brew, butternut brittle latte, caramel apple cider, caramel brulee, pumpkin white mocha, peppermint bark mocha and peppermint mocha frappe. The peppermint drinks will continue into December, along with the addition of gingerbread and eggnog flavors.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be in Sioux Falls. Find it from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the usual spot at Tractor Supply Co. on North Cliff Avenue.

Blarney Stone Pub will be serving breakfast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Black Friday. Get a free bloody mary, mimosa or Screwdriver with the purchase of a breakfast entree.

Changes in hours, service

  • Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen is no longer open on Tuesdays. New winter hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
  • Pizza di Paolo has scaled back hours again heading into winter. It dropped Monday service at the beginning of the month, and now Tuesday and Wednesday are gone too. New hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
