Restaurant Roundup: Southside Slamwich winner, pie breads, new featured menus

March 7, 2024

All Day Cafe won the inaugural Southside Slamwich contest, and anyone who missed The Latimer still has a chance to try it this month.

The competition featured a dozen restaurants with new sandwiches that were sold throughout February. ADC’s sandwich, created by Chef Matt Muntefering, had the top rankings. The Latimer features cherrywood cold-smoked rib roast, fontina cheese, sauteed Italian greens, crispy prosciutto, roasted tomato, stewed morel mushrooms, holly and roasted bell pepper aioli and arugula chimichurri on toasted ciabatta.

To celebrate Pi Day on March 14, Breadsmith is baking mini pie breads in apple, blueberry and cherry, and selling them for $3.14. Advance orders are recommended at breadsmith.com.

Nunzio Pizza Kitchen at Harvester Kitchen by Bryan is still going – at least through March. It started because the restaurant’s tasting menus for January and February featured wood-fired dishes – and because wood-fired pizza is one of Chef Bryan Moscatello’s “very favorite foods.” The pizzas are available for takeout-only Wednesday through Sunday nights and can be ordered online. In addition to the regular offerings, this Sunday’s menu includes specials for the Oscars and availability from noon to 9:30 p.m. Find the featured offerings and ordering information on Harvester’s Facebook page.

While putting pineapple on pizza can generate debate, a new burger at Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews likely won’t draw as much heat. Big Shot is among several new menu items. The burger is topped with provolone cheese, pineapple, fried egg, fried pickles, barbecue sauce and Sickies’ sauce.

Sickies says the new Flame Thrower is its spiciest burger ever. It’s topped with ghost pepper cheese, bacon, spicy mayo and Hell’s Fury sauce.
