Restaurant Roundup: Return of Sanaa’s lunch buffet, Cluckin’ Good pop-up

June 17, 2021

With the waning of the pandemic locally, the Saturday lunch buffet is back at Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet. Owner Sanaa Abourezk said she isn’t planning to bring back the Friday night buffet, so she has increased the offerings Saturday. Diners will find three appetizers, two salads, a soup, five entrees and two breads, along with coffee and tea. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the price is $15. A to-go option is available.

If you’ve been missing Cluckin’ Good Chicken & BBQ since it switched to catering only a couple of months ago, it will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday for takeout orders. There’s a limited menu and a limited amount of food, so it might close earlier.

The food truck KK & Sons Lao & Thai Food started its season Wednesday at its regular spot at Rice Street and Cliff Avenue. It typically opens at noon Tuesday through Saturday and goes until 5 p.m., closing earlier if the food sells out – which it did the first day in less than three hours.

The Saturday morning outdoor doughnut market is back at CNC Food Factory. Owners Andrew and Stephanie Brown will have their large selection of creative baked doughnuts, including more than a dozen gluten-free ones, in the parking lot Avera McKennan Fitness Center, which is where the café is located. They’ll be out there Saturday from 7 to 9 a.m. and will post other dates on social media. Customers can buy individual doughnuts or get them by the half-dozen or dozen. After 9 a.m., customers can find doughnuts and the full menu of breakfast and lunch items in the café, which is opening until noon.

The annual 406 Summer Fare menu is here at MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub. Many of the Montana-inspired dishes – from the chain’s home base – feature huckleberries. Here’s what you’ll find: huckleberry salad, bison chili, smoked trout dip, Going to the Sun flatbread and Big Sky bison burger. For dessert, have a slice of huckleberry cheesecake or the Doc Holliday: white chocolate macadamia nut cookies served in a hot skillet with huckleberry ice cream and house-made huckleberry sauce.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips has several new menu items. The restaurant has added a spinach and artichoke dip, chicken and waffles, an all-day breakfast sandwich, chicken cobb salad, Jamaican jerk chicken and the Farmhouse Pork Ribeye.

Stensland Family Farms has expanded its milkshake offerings at the central offering at 3101 W. 41st St. In addition to vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, it’s serving creme de menthe, toasted marshmallow, espresso, raspberry, pineapple, dulce de leche and root beer. They’re made with fresh soft-serve ice cream from the creamery near Larchwood, Iowa.
