Restaurant roundup: Restaurant’s first tailgate, new coffee shop owners and a corn-inspired drink

Tailgating is back, which is a good fit for newcomer to the neighborhood Roundhouse Brew Pub. The restaurant near Bob Young Field will host its first tailgate party with outdoor food and beer specials for the game. Bring a chair for the pre-game party starting at 4 p.m. before USF takes on Bemidji State.

Remedy’s Skolberry release party is at 7 p.m. Aug. 27, which happens to be when the Minnesota Vikings play the Kansas City Chief. The brewery recently expanded distribution to the Twin Cities, and it will be available in stores there.

Falls Overlook Café has started its fall hours. That means you can visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

And it’s the last week of the summer for Subzero Desserts, which is open 2 to 9 p.m. through Saturday and 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Tropical Sno also closes this weekend, though you can book a tabletop version for events year-round.

Dunn Brothers Coffee has new owners. Alaina and Dylan Huyser and Abby and Lucas Teunissen are taking over the coffee shop at 5320 E. Arrowhead Parkway. Alaina and Abby are sisters. Stop by the farewell reception for owners Emily and Ryan Vincelli and Doris and Jack Sitzmann on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.

Watecha Bowl owner Lawrence West is celebrating his birthday this week and offering $5 Indian tacos today and Friday. The restaurant will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Calico Skies Vineyard and Winery will be harvesting its La Crescent this weekend. Enjoy doughnuts and coffee in the morning, glass of wine and pizza for lunch and you’ll go home with a bottle of La Crescent. Send an email to [email protected] if you can make it. P.S. It’s an all-ages event.

The popular flavor Sanford Swirl has hit the dipping cabinet at Stensland Family Farms ahead of the Sanford International Sept. 13-19 at Minnehaha Country Club! This ice cream was created just for the Sanford team and features lemon cheesecake ice cream mixed with vanilla cookie pieces, graham and blue raspberry swirl. Get it while you can at any of the three Sioux Falls locations.

And say farewell to this flavor, at least for now. Cherry Kool-Aid cookies at Eileen’s Colossal Cookies will go away for the season on Sept. 2.

Love this local collaboration: The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is integrating local sweet corn into the Mitchell, it’s appropriately named featured drink for the month. “We make some tasty, tasty corn milk and shake that with some of our Gao Wen black tea, vanilla syrup, and ice, for a super delicately sweet and chill little tea latte. We also garnish it with some of that delicious popcorn from The State Theater just up the road from us.” It disappears Sept. 3.

Mexican food truck La Fondita has a new home base. It’s in a parking lot at 1300 W. 12th St. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday as long as the weather holds.
