Restaurant Roundup: Oktoberfest specials, fall flavors, new taproom

22Ten Kitchen Cocktails has introduced its Oktoberfest menu. The restaurant put its own spin on traditional German specialties and created a few new ones.

Oktoberfest specials are on the menu at Blarney Stone Pub. Offerings include knoephla soup; hackbraten, which is German meatloaf; bratwurst and sauerkraut with apples and onions; steak stroganoff; and apple cobbler. They’re available likely until early next month.

WoodGrain Brewing Co. is offering a traditional Kolsch service while supplies last. The downtown brewery is serving its Holzmaserun, a German-style Kolsch, in a custom 7-ounce glass for $6. Additional pours are $3. You get to keep the glass.

Oh My Cupcakes has introduced its fall menu, which will be available into November. Cupcake flavors include Sweet Pumpkin Cheesecake, My Sweet Pumpkin,  Cookie Cutter, S’mores, Caramel Macchiato and Old School. New three-layer cake flavors are Pumpkin Salted Caramel Cake and Fall Cake in vanilla or chocolate with a sunflower design. September cupcake flavors are Strawberry Basil Fusion and Harvest Caramel Apple. Editor’s note: This was updated to note that two cupcake flavors are available only through this month. 

Seasonal coffees have arrived at Kingbird Coffee in Brandon. New drinks include Caramel Apple Butter and Ryne’s Peach Cobbler. Returning favorites are Pumpkin Spice Miel and Apple Crisp Latte.

The new taproom Altered Species Ales is having its grand opening until 9 tonight. Mike Nussbaum, most recently the head brewer at Obscure Brewing Co., started the venture in the former Miner Brewing space on the south side of the Western Mall. Eventually, he plans to add a brewery. To start, hours for the taproom are 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Chick-fil-A has opened a second location in Sioux Falls. The restaurant is in Morrison Commons on the campus of Augustana University. It’s open to the public. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tuesday is the final event of the season for Golf Addiction’s Food Truck Tuesday. Here’s which trucks are expected: The Ice Cream Truck — SDSU Ice Cream, Harry’s Yellow Submarine, Breaking Burrito, Ollies, Fat Kid Filly’s and Soul Train. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m.

The Big Game Burger with venison, elk and ground beef is available for a limited time and in limited supply at Arby’s. The patty is topped with crispy onions, pickles, Swiss cheese and a dark cherry steak sauce. It went on the menu Tuesday.

Crack’d Pot has a new Wednesday night special. Get an all-you-can-eat chicken-fried steak dinner with choice of potato, Texas toast and salad bar for $15. It’s served from 5 to 8 p.m. The meal replaces an all-you-can eat pork chop special.

Let It Fly has moved its food specials on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursday to lunchtime. Monday: Buy a burger and get the second one for half-price. Tuesday: Get three chicken or beef tacos with chips and salsa for $10. Thursday: Buy one get one half off pizzas and flatbreads. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nautical Bowls has new daily specials for fall.

Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars has added charcuterie boards to its food menu. Each month will feature new items, all selected with the brewery’s craft beer offerings in mind. The September offering has Smoking Goose blackberry duck salami,  Pleasant Ridge Reserve Alpine-style cheese, Cabot extra-sharp white cheddar cheese, oven-roasted Spanish almonds with rosemary and sea salt, dried Montmorency cherries and dried Turkish apricots.

Wine Enthusiast has named R Wine Bar & Kitchen as one of the best wine shops in the U.S.  The magazine interviewed more than 80 wine industry professionals about their favorite wine shops and what makes them special. “We kept in mind several factors: community involvement, spotlights on local wine, commitments to causes and excellence of selection.” The article includes a quote from Sanaa Abourezk, the owner of Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet, which is across the street from R Wine Bar.

The annual Beervana beer-tasting event is Saturday at Monks Ale House. Limited tickets are available at the taproom or by calling. On Friday, Monks is having a “Kill the Keg” special to get ready for Beervana. All draft beers are half-price from 3 to 9 p.m.

Obscure Brewing Co. has new menu items. New pizzas include Greek Thing with pesto, chicken, artichoke, black olive, feta and mozzarella, and Sweet, Hot & Thick with red sauce, thick-slice pepperoni, banana peppers and hot honey. Bratwurst has returned.

Celebrate National Cheeseburger Day on Monday at Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews. During happy hour, get a Classic Garage Burger and a domestic pint for $11.

There’s still time to try the latest featured drinks at The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co., including a coffee spin on a bloody mary. Both are iced drinks and available until Oct. 6. The Coffee Mary has tomato syrup, cold brew, V8, lime Liquid Death, celery salt, pepper and a celery ribbon. Teaches of Peaches has rosemary, peach syrup, Gao Wen black tea, lemon, San Pellegrino and Peachy-O.

Dairy Queen is celebrating the year Blizzards were invented with a special price. Order through the DQ app and get a small treat for 85 cents through Sept. 24.

Changes in hours, service

  • B&G Milkyway’s season is coming to an end. The first location to close will be 12th Street, with Sunday as the final day. West 41st Street will close Sept. 24. Other location closing dates haven’t been announced yet. Pumpkin Pie Avalanches just joined the lineup, and seasonal peach and special offering Bing flavors are available while supplies last.
  • Stensland Family Farms is closing its east location on Mondays and Tuesdays until spring, remaining open Wednesday through Sunday. The central location will remain open daily. In August, Stensland closed the west location until spring. Small-batch flavor alert: Rum raisin, which hasn’t been available for a couple of years, is being sold in dips and pints at the two retail stores.
  • The traveling food truck On the Hook is back in Sioux Falls already. It will be here from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Tractor Supply Co. on North Cliff Avenue.
  • Windy City Bites has new hours for fall and football season: 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 3 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 5 to 10 p.m. Monday.
  • The Dive has added online ordering and delivery through its Square site.
  • Let Me Be Frank is wrapping up its lunch season with an outing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at J&L Harley-Davidson. The gourmet hot dog cart will be available for private events through the winter.
  • Street Bite food truck is serving this week through Saturday but is taking a break after that until Oct. 13.
