Restaurant Roundup: New taco bar, Saturday breakfast buffet, featured menus

Oct. 5, 2023

Here’s a new offering that’s probably worth a lunchtime road trip. Sioux Valley Grille in Canton is open now on Tuesdays for lunch with a taco bar. It features unlimited taco offerings, tortilla soup, fresh fruit, dessert and a beverage. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The price is $15. It’s $10 for kids age 3-13. Takeout is available.

Pinz in Dell Rapids has expanded its weekend breakfast buffet to include Saturdays. It’s served from 9 to 11 a.m. The offerings are more limited than Sundays, but they’re still made from scratch, owner Casey McCoy said. Diners won’t find biscuits and gravy, and there won’t be as many doughnut offerings. The cafe in the bowling alley wanted to provide a fast and efficient way for families to eat during youth leagues, but everyone is welcome.

Oktoberfest features are back at Tinner’s Public House, and now with the addition of Tinner’s North, they’re available there too this month. The menu offers traditional German specialties like kartoffelpuffer, which are potato pancakes, Oktoberfest beer bratwurst, schweineschnitzel and rinderrouladen. For an American twist, there’s the Oktobrat Flatbread.

There are drink specials too.

Now that the Downtown Pork Showdown is over, Chef Lance’s on Phillips has created a special three-course menu for October. The features are offered in addition to the full menu.

The October feature at R Wine Bar & Kitchen is butternut squash ravioli. The stuffed pasta pillows are tossed in a mushroom and local heirloom tomato ragu sauce.

Here’s a look at the October food and drink specials at Tailgators Grill & Bar in Brandon.

Stroll from stop to stop Friday in downtown Sioux Falls to sip wine and watch artists at work. Blodgett will serve appetizers and pastries Friday night as a thank-you and to meet new diners.

The first 50 people through the doors – they open at noon — get a free Oktoberfest hat. Wear lederhosen and dirndls and get $1 off all beers. Live music will go from 1 p.m. to midnight. Stein-holding competitions will be held at 4, 8 and 10:30 p.m.

The winery north of Brandon at 48052 259th St. will have a mini grape stomp, petting zoo, pumpkin painting and activities for kids. Retro Rock will play from 1 to 5 p.m., and Tacos de Gringo, Auntie J’s American Soul Food and Word of Life will be selling food.

Two restaurants at the Sanford Sports Complex are offering dessert and drink specials in October to raise money for the Edith Sanford Breast Center. Both will donate $1 of every purchase. At Great Shots, the specials are Raspberry Cheesecake and Pink Ribbon Lemonade.

Scooter’s Coffee has introduced a Dollar Delights menu. Offerings include any size brewed coffee, three mini-doughnuts, bottled water, a shot of espresso or the addition of Sweet Vanilla Cold Foam to a drink.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be stopping Saturday in the city. Find it from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot on North Cliff Avenue.
