Restaurant Roundup: New menu items, salsa sampling, holiday food events

Nov. 18, 2021

Check out the new featured specials at Roundhouse Brew Pub. Start with pickle fries and end with the fall brownie, a warm caramel brownie topped with pumpkin spice latte ice cream. For an entree, choose from the Pork N’ Mac Wrap, a turkey burger or the spicy chicken and shrimp pizza.

By popular demand, the baby back ribs have returned to Tinner’s Public House on the November featured menu. Other choices this month include gizzards, a raspberry caprese salad, chicken Philly sandwich and a Cubana flatbread.

As the owners of Salas Salsas work this winter to get a food truck ready to go next season, some of their products are being carried at Look’s Marketplace. The grocer is stocking several flavors of salsa and two-packs of veggie tamales. The tamales feature poblano peppers from Tillford Rye Farm near Garretson and are gluten-free, dairy-free and plant-based. The mother-and-daughter team of Patricia Burbine and Marcela Salas will be at Look’s from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday with samples. Buy a container of salsa, and get a free cranberry salsa, with one per customer. You also can find their tamales at the Sioux Falls Food Co+op and all of the products at the Brandon Farmers Market, which is the second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Faith United Church.

Great news for diners at TC’s Referee Sports Bar & Grill: Parking has been added on the north side of the building. “We don’t get a lot of complaints at TC’s Referee, but when we do, we always try to fix them,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post in late September. “For almost 30 years, a big complaint has been lack of parking, especially during super-busy times. Well, thanks to Ronning Property Management and Soukup Construction, we are working on making your TC’S parking dreams come true.” The new parking area provides about 80 spots for the two retail centers. There’s even enough room for the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile!

Crooked Pint Ale House is offering game day specials during pro football games. For $8, get cheese curds, fries, a classic Lucy or a pitcher of Coors Light. The restaurant has 21 big-screen TVs.

Fans of the Italian Original Chicken Sandwich at Burger King are rejoicing with its limited return to the menu.

Olive Destination is having its annual Wine, Sip & Shop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Sample wine and appetizers and listen to music from pianist Holly VandenBerg while stocking up on premium grade olive oils and vinegars. The shop is at 5023 S. Louise Ave.

Want help putting together a Thanksgiving-themed charcuterie board? Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse is teaming up with its charcuterie board provider, Cultivated in Love, to offer a class from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. For $65, participants will build a board for gourmet snacking while sipping on a holiday-themed signature drink flight in the downtown tasting room. Other drink specials will be available. Participants must be 21 or older. Get tickets here.

Changes in service, hours

Qboba on 41st Street is closed for a couple of days for a major remodeling project. It’s getting new seating, updated bathrooms and other new finishes. The staff isn’t quite sure yet if they’ll be able to reopen Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Pizza di Paolo is closed through Saturday for a family memorial service. With the usual days that it’s closed and Thanksgiving, it’s likely that it won’t reopen until Nov. 26. Find updates on Facebook.

Kabab King Restaurant & Market is opening a little later and closing a little earlier, and it’s also hiring. New hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. And if you’re looking for something a little different for Thanksgiving, it’s offering a take-and-heat dinner with kabab, shish tawook, lamb chislic, shawarma, rice, fries, appetizers, salad and flat bread.
