Restaurant Roundup: New lunch buffet, Reubens, City Council Bingo

Tailgators Grill & Bar in Brandon now serves a lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The price is $15, which includes a drink and tax. Recent offerings have included Mexican and Asian themes.

Murph’s Burgers & Fries has a tradition of selling Reuben sandwiches in March, and they’ll be available starting Saturday. They’ll be served at least through March.

The new brunch special for March at R Wine Bar & Kitchen is Chilaquiles Verdes. Corn tortilla chips are tossed in salsa verde, topped with carnitas, sour cream, queso fresco and a sunny-side-up egg and garnished with fresh cilantro and serrano peppers. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Sugar Palace by Emily in Harrisburg has five new cupcake flavors: Strawberry Shortcake, Nutty Buddy, Pebbles, Swiss Miss and Oatmeal Cream.

Roots of Brasil is celebrating Carnival from Friday through March 8 with exclusive food and drink specials and costumed staff. Live music will be offered March 6.


The food truck Black Iron Waffles has started selling its gourmet waffle mix so fans can make their own waffles at home. Try samples at two events this weekend. Black Iron Waffles will be at Rainy Day Coffee Co. in Beresford from 9 a.m. Saturday until the waffles are gone. On Sunday, it will be at Look’s Marketplace from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both shops carry the mix for sale.

Looking for an elegant, red carpet event to celebrate the Oscars? Harvester Kitchen by Bryan is hosting its annual Oscars Gala on Sunday during the awards. Chef Bryan Moscatello has created a multicourse menu inspired by Hollywood’s biggest night. The party goes from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $245. Still want to celebrate the Oscars but at home? Nunzio’s Pizza Kitchen, a takeout-only creation of Harvester Kitchen by Bryan, has created two special pizzas for Oscar-watching parties. The Leading Actress Pie features pollen-scented tomato sauce, house ricotta, roasted peppers and charred leeks. The Leading Actor Pie has Calabrian chili sauce, Italian cheese blend, hen confit, morel mushrooms and caramelized onions. Call 605-271-2015 to pre-order through Saturday for pickup Sunday, with time slots available from noon to 8:30 p.m.

In an attempt to offer a “low-key way to meet your neighbors, stay informed and turn city government into something we enjoy engaging with,” Gist Wine Shop is starting City Council Bingo. The first event starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown business. Enjoy a glass — or share a bottle — of wine while watching the televised council meeting. Bingo cards will be filled with squares like “someone calls for transparency” or “we don’t want to be like Sioux City.” Players will mark their cards as they hear those items. The first person to get bingo “gets bragging rights and wines (yes, wines) a prize!”

DaDa Gastropub is hosting its third annual Bloody Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9. Downtown bartenders will compete to see who has the best bloody mary, and DaDa will serve brunch. Tickets are $50, which includes food, a bloody mary flight, tax and gratuity, but not ticketing fees. Order tickets at eventbrite.com.

Taco John’s picked up on a menu hack to create the Nacho Taco Bravo. The usual hard shell taco wrapped in a flour tortilla with refried beans gets the addition of nacho cheese next to the beans. They’re two for $6 for a limited time.

The Big Easy menu with Cajun flavors is back at Applebee’s for a limited time. New entrees include Bourbon Street Chicken & Andouille Sausage Penne and Blacked Shrimp & Andouille Sausage Penne. Returning favorites are Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp, Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss Burger and Bourbon Street Steak.

Cracker Barrel has two new pancakes: Oreo Stuffed Cheesecake Pancakes and Chocolate Chip Pancakes.

The Source Coffee Roastery + Taproom is heading into spring with a new features menu. Flavors range from orange with cardamom and fennel to peanut butter with maple and honey. Learn more about all the drink here.

Here’s a new drink to try for fans of a “magically delicious” cereal. The limited-time Lucky Charms Latte at Scooter’s Coffee features a blend of marshmallow, vanilla and espresso, topped with the cereal’s marshmallow bits. Get it hot, iced or blended. Other offerings on the spring menu are The Leprechaun, Cinnamon Brown Sugar Oatmilk Latte, Peach Bliss Quencher, Strawberry Blossom Red Bull Infusion and Strawberry Blossom Matcha. There are new Mini Blueberry Muffins, and the Sea Salt Carmelicious Cake Bites are back.
