Restaurant Roundup: Elvis Burger, bison chislic, special menus

March 11, 2021

Eat like the King with this featured burger. Lupulin Brewing Co. has partnered with neighboring Ruby Tuesday for a burger of the month. For March, try The Elvis Burger: a half-pound patty on a brioche bun, topped with bacon, fried bananas and peanut butter. It comes with a side of fries or tots for $9. Customers can call to order from the taproom and have it delivered to their table. Stop in through Sunday for the final days of Lupulin’s Big Beer Week, with new releases every day.

Chislic fans who aren’t lamb purists might be drawn to two additions at Urban Chislic. The restaurant has added bison and venison, with limited amounts available daily. The bison is sourced through North American Bison of Fargo. Sysco provides the venison.

One year after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Ramen Fuji has reopened its dining room. The restaurant on South Minnesota Avenue closed temporarily in mid-March 2020 and reopened in late May for takeout and delivery. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.

Myers’ Deli & More in the CNA Surety Building downtown is temporarily closed. Owner Dan Myers said he’s “trying to figure out a couple of issues” but plans to reopen. He did not say when that might be. He’s continuing the catering side of the business.

The downtown location for Poke Picks has extended its temporary closure until March 15. The new restaurant was supposed to reopen today after making renovations.

McNally’s Irish Pub has created a special menu for St. Patrick’s Day that will be available Saturday and on the feast day. There’s even a special breakfast menu with a morning shepherd’s pie, corned beef quiche, and bangers and mash. Kids can have a bowl of Lucky Charms with green milk or a plate of pancakes and sausage. The pub opens at 8 a.m. Breakfast is served until 11 a.m., and the kitchen is open until 10 p.m. If you’d rather eat at home, there are two take-and-bake options for both days: corned beef and cabbage or bangers and mash. Both family-style meals feed four to five people and come with potato leek soup, rustic bread and green beer. They need to be ordered in advance.

Here’s another special menu item for the season: Mackenzie River Pizza Grill & Pub is serving cottage pie through St. Patrick’s Day. Enjoy the restaurant’s version of a shepherd’s pie with ground beef, herbs and veggies in a Guinness gravy, topped with mashed potatoes, mozzarella and cheddar, and baked until golden brown for $9. Get a bottle or can of Guinness for $2.50.

Monks Ale House started making pizzas earlier this year, and the kitchen has released its first featured pizza. The Pork Belly Street Taco Pizza has house-cured, beer-braised pork belly with jalapeno, pickled red onion, fresh cilantro and chipotle crema. The feature will change every month.

If you gave up meat for Lent, On the Hook Fish & Chips has perfect timing for its next visit. The traveling food truck will be here Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Tractor Supply Co. on North Cliff Avenue. Get three pieces of fried wild Atlantic cod and fries for $12.

The featured menu for March at the Phillips Avenue Diner has several Irish-themed offerings. Reuben fries offer a spin on the traditional sandwich, and there’s an Irish beef stew that has red skin potatoes in it and comes with a side of mashed potatoes — because why not? There’s a pub chicken sandwich and chicken pesto pasta. The featured shake for the month is mint brownie.

March specials at Tinner’s Public House cover a range of flavors from a spicy buffalo chicken beer cheese dip to a fresh Big Island flatbread with ham, mandarin orange, pineapple, shaved coconut, Havarti cheese and marinara. Stop in Saturday morning for green beer and corned beef hash, or come by after 11 a.m. for corned beef and cabbage.
