Restaurant Roundup: New hot bar, $7 lunch specials, Valentine’s menus

The Sioux Falls Food Co+op is done remodeling the deli hot bar. Diners will find self-serve hot bars for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Salads, bowls and smoothies are still available to order.

Daily breakfast hours are 7 to 10:30 a.m., with an 8 a.m. start on Sunday.

Lunch/dinner is served daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for Sunday when the hot bar closes at 5 p.m.

The SandBar & Grill has new Railbirds Fast-Track Lunch specials available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays this month. For $7, get a hot beef or hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, goulash or a sloppy joe with housemade Parmesan kettle chips.

The fifth annual Brunch Fest is Sunday at Remedy Brewing Co. The buffet will be loaded with smoked cheesy egg bake, sausage links, hash brown patties, regular and blueberry pancakes, French toast sticks and three kinds of doughnuts: glazed, caramel and red velvet. For beverages, there will be three “brunch” beers: Mimosa Hefe Metal, Caramel Caffe Mocha Schwarzbier and Red Beer. Prices, which don’t include drinks, are $18 for adults and $15 for kids. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Pickle Pub also is also a Pickleball in PJs event! For $30, get two hours of pickleball and brunch. Reserve those tickets here.

After suspending Saturday brunch because of the Downtown Burger Battle, it’s back at Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The buffet offers everything from traditional breakfast staples liked scrambled eggs and peppered bacon to those with a Southern spin like sweet potato pancakes and biscuits with andouille sausage gravy.

Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet has been chosen as one of USA Today’s Restaurants of the Year. The newspaper’s writers picked their favorite 44 places to eat in the country. The report highlighted owner Sanaa Abourezk, noting “She will dance in the kitchen, fingers snapping and all, then approach the counter with her red lipstick and red pepper earrings on, serve a plate of organic cuisine for you and then ask how your kids are doing.”

Wagoo Burger in Fernson Downtown has new menus. Here’s what’s served for breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m.

For lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

And for dinner from 3 p.m. to close.

Central Dakota Perk has reopened in Tea. The coffee kiosk found a new home at 500 E. First St., two blocks east of the previous location. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1p.m. on the weekend. The Tea location – there’s also one in Harrisburg – had been closed since mid-September. Customers can use either window. To order ahead, text, call or go online. Food offerings won’t return until the food truck portion of the business can reopen in the spring.

If you’re going through Downtown Burger Battle withdrawals, here are a few burgers of the month to try.

  • Alibi Bar & Grill: The Sante Fe Burger is a one-third pound patty topped with pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, spicy ranch sauce and tortilla chips, served on a toasted Breadsmith bun. It’s $11 and comes with your choice of side.

  • Big Sioux Burger: The Grilled Cheese Burger has two smashed patties, American and cheddar cheeses, cheddar aioli and sliced tomato on griddled milk bread. It’s served with tomato soup for dipping.

  • Crooked Pint Ale House: The Wrangler Lucy is stuffed with jalapenos and cheddar cheese, topped with more cheddar, bacon, bourbon molasses sauce and haystack onions. It’s $12 for dine-in only.

  • Gateway Bar & Lounge: The Jalapeno Popper Burger is a quarter-pound patty blended with jalapeno-infused cream cheese, topped with pepper jack cheese, bacon and jalapeno chips.

Here are the new breakfast specials at Crack’d Pot Restaurant. They’re available all day, but the discounts run from 8 to 11 a.m. daily.

Gibs Sports Bar’s special for February is the Dirty Bird Wrap. It features the same grilled chicken used in the restaurant’s signature Papa’s Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta. It comes with tots or fries for $14.

The dish of the month at Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is the Garlic Sizzle Grilled Hot Wrap with grilled chicken, mozzarella and cheddar, black beans, fresh parsley and a roasted garlic sauce. Through Saturday, but a hot wrap and two drinks and get any entrée for free. Use the code SIZZLE if you order online.

DQ Grill & Chill’s Blizzard of the Month is Red Velvet Cake. DQ soft serve is blended with pieces of cake and cream cheese icing.

Featured drinks this month at The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. are Jadorade, a raspberry and rose iced ceremonial-grade Matcha Sonogi latte with chocolate cold foam, and Beet It with espresso, milk, black pepper-infused vanilla syrup, beet powder and cherry simple syrup.

Fit Revolution Nutrition is celebrating Customer Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Find Valentine’s-themed drinks, giveaways and a special prize for the first 10 customers who bring a friend. Sister locations The Drop Nutrition and Refuel will be closed Saturday to join in the fun at Fit Revolution Nutrition.

The Orion Pub is having its second annual chili cook-off from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Bring your favorite recipe or serve as a judge. The winner gets a $50 gift club to the downtown bar and a T-shirt.

Trio Jazz Club is hosting the Lincoln High School Jazz Band on Tuesday with half of all ticket sales going to the jazz program. Show times are 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. Get tickets at triojazzclub.com.

R Wine Bar & Kitchen won the January Pasta Battle against its sister restaurant, Maribella Ristorante, with Creamy Chipotle Coast Pasta topping Vodka Tortellini.

The DQ Grill & Chill in Hartford is back with more Inflation Busting Savings through Sunday. This week’s offers are a regular or spicy chicken strip sandwich combo for $7 and a small shake for $3.

Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar in the Ramkota Waterpark is donating $5 from every medium heart-shaped pizza and Diamond Squarefooter sold Friday through Sunday to The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.

Almost every restaurant is featuring a special menu for Valentine’s Day, and some are offering specials for several days to spread out the love. Here’s a small sampling.

Granite City Food & Brewery offers lots of choices with its four-course dinner for two, which will be served Friday through Sunday. Reservations are almost full on Friday, but the meal is available for takeout too. If you’re dining in, add a bottle of champagne or pitcher of Granite City beer for $12.

Here’s a three-course menu with lots of options from Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews that’s available today through Saturday.

The Phillips Avenue Diner has a featured menu today through Saturday.

As does Grille 26 today through Saturday.

Feeling like Mexican? La Plaza Fiesta’s dinner special is available today through Sunday. The $60 fajita dinner for two includes drinks.

If a high-end dinner is more to your liking, the new Ironwood Steakhouse has a special menu of individually priced items that are available from Friday through Monday, while supplies last. Entrees are grilled swordfish, bacon-wrapped filet mignon or porterhouse for two. There are hors d’oeuvres and desserts too.

And if you’re not inclined to go out at night, The Cookie Jar Eatery has a Valentine’s Day lunch special. Get a flatbread pizza – pepperoni, cheese or chicken bacon ranch – two drinks and two desserts – cookies or slices of French silk or apple pie – for $20. On the sweeter side, The Boozy Bakery is offering creme brule flights Friday and Saturday in JJ’s Bar. Each dessert is 5 ounces, and there are six flavors. Non-boozy are Vanilla Bean, London Fog and Bananas Foster. Boozy ones are Raspberry Chambord, Lemon Drop and Chocolate Bailey’s Coma.

Drop in at Gist Wine Shop from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday for the annual Chocolate + Wine Flight. Get three chocolates paired with three wines. The price is $30 per person.

  • Chevys Fresh Mex: The Valentine Berry Mojito at Chevys Fresh Mex.

  • Crawford’s Bar & Grill: Kiss Me Through the Foam, Fizz Me Up and S’mores Old-Fashioned.

  • The Hello Hi: Love on the Rocks, Turbo Lover, Hot Butt Rum and Death Cabernet for Cutie for one or a share-a-bowl for two. They’re available all month.

  • Union Social in Harrisburg: The Oh, You Fancy Joy-Tini with Stolichnaya vanilla vodka, Chambord, pineapple juice and Bordeaux cherry; Gin Basil Smash with Aviation gin, citrus sour and lemon, Cointreau, cranberry juice, blackberry puree and fresh basil; and Berry Love Spritzer with pear vodka, strawberry and elderberry liqueurs, blood orange puree and club soda.

Changes in hours, service

  • Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse in The Gaslight Lounge is closed and will reopen Wednesday.
  • Berrybrook Dairy Nook near Freeman has a new retail outlet in Sioux Falls. Find the farm’s ice cream at Hy-Vee at 49th and Louise. Other locations in the city are Pomegrante Market and Sioux Falls Food Co+op. Berrybrook also sells through Dakota Fresh Food Hub.
