Restaurant Roundup: New food hall offering, battle winners, monthly features
March 6, 2025
The new Nunzio’s Food Hall has added another offering to its lineup: Pierre’s Jambon Beurre. The sandwich features French bistro ham and your choice of imported Maison Bordier butter on a housemade levain demi baguette. It also serves Choux au Craqueline, which are creme puffs filled with pastry cream and whipped cream. The “food hall” is actually a takeout concept at Harvester Kitchen by Bryan. It opened last month with the return of Nunzio’s Pizza Kitchen and the new Corky’s Wine Shop. Hours for Nunzio’s Food Hall are 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Orders can be placed online at nunziosfoodhall.com anytime for pickup during those hours. Read more about the concept in this story we did last month.

Here are the winners of the February food contests that took place in Sioux Falls and the region:
- Southside Slamwich: In a close race, The Rush Bar & Grill won the second annual competition of 15 restaurants with Spicy Bourbon Bliss. Travis Betsworth’s creation is a fried chicken breast topped with maple bourbon bacon jam, Havarti cheese and onion strings on a brioche bun. The bar is running short on ingredients, but it will return to the menu, likely in early April. The Rush scored 4.696, edging out The Smoked Culture at 4.688 and JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars at 4.6575.

- Sioux Empire Pizza Battle: Charlie’s Pizza won the inaugural competition with the Judy Garland. It has alfredo sauce, spinach, bacon, chicken, roma tomatoes and garlic, finished with Parmesan and sweet balsamic glaze. The restaurant will keep making the pizza when the ingredients are available. Each of the 11 restaurants donated a portion of proceeds to charity. Charlie’s recipient was Emily’s Hope.

- Bite-Sized Showdown: The Taco Vault in Worthing won the taco battle among seven small-town restaurants with a 4.84 customer rating, edging out Chuds Pub & Grub in Larchwood, Iowa, at 4.83. In addition to being the runner-up, Chuds sold the most tacos. The winning Do I Make You Corny? has sweet Cajun pork belly topped with street corn dip, Vault Sauce, pickled red onions, queso fresco and cilantro in a corn tortilla. It’s available for a short time but will be added to the menu soon.

- 605 Rural Burger Battle: Baltic Corner defeated five other bars and restaurants in the inaugural competition with The Boss Burger. It’s a bacon burger with beer cheese sauce, onion tanglers and American and Swiss cheeses on a pretzel bun. It has earned a permanent spot on the menu.
