Restaurant Roundup: New burgers, one-week-only creations, pizza hunt

March 31, 2022

Here’s the new menu for Wagoo Burgers, which takes over the kitchen Friday at Fernson Downtown. The new concept comes from the owners of Crawford’s Bar & Grill. “It’s a diverse menu with something for everybody on there,” said Derek Fernholz, co-owner of Fernson Brewing Co. The menu features locally sourced, family-grown beef from a farm near Humboldt. And those cattle soon will have spent grain from the brewery added to their diet, Fernholz said. Wagoo’s hours will follow the taproom’s, perhaps closing an hour earlier for cleanup, he said.

Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar in the Ramada Hotel has started serving burgers. Boss’ started a seasonal burger shop in Keystone last year, and “we figured out we did them pretty good,” owner Jeremy Seefeldt said. He wanted to start building up the lunch menu at the sports bar and said burgers are a quicker option for customers who don’t have a lot of time over the noon hour. There are seven burger options, including a basic cheeseburger and the Founding Father, which is based on the signature pizza with the same name. The one-third pound patty is topped with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, cheese, crushed red pepper, ranch dressing, lettuce, tomato and onion. Seefeldt said that’s his favorite. To introduce the burgers, Boss’ is offering a buy-one-get-one special until April 8 if you show your server the Facebook post — and we’re guessing this article might do the trick too!

The Cookie Jar Eatery has created a catering menu since it has suspended serving lunch. Before, catering customers just ordered from the lunch menu, said Glen Koch, who owns the longtime bakery with his wife, Elaine. They aren’t sure if they’ll be able to find an employee to help them, so lunch hours remain on hold. Koch said they’ve been keeping busy making cookies and bars to fill the bakery cases and special orders. They do offer grab-and-go lunches with containers of chili and chicken tortilla soup to heat up and tubs of chicken salad and egg salad for making sandwiches.

Flyboy Donuts has a new trick up its sleeve for April Fool’s Day. Get a box of crumbs and sprinkles to set out first, along with a real dozen for later, or you can have a gift card tucked in with the crumbs. Order online  at flyboydonuts.com for delivery or pickup.

Mary’s Mountain Cookies has started a Bake It Forward campaign. Buy a tag for a free cookie and hang it on a display at the shop on North Phillips Avenue for someone who deserves a treat.

Both racetracks are owned by Tod Quiring. Jackson’s first race is April 29, and Huset’s starts its season May 8.
