Restaurant Roundup: Girl Scout Cookie cheesecakes, Lucky Charms Ice Cream

March 3, 2022

Chef Ellen is baking Girl Scout-inspired cheesecakes all month. Up this week, the new cookie Adventurefuls and S’mores. Next week is S’mores and Samoas. The week of March 14 is Thin Mints and Tagalongs, the week of March 21 Trefoils and Toffee-tastic and the final week of March is Lemon-ups and Do-Si-Do’s. The prepared-meal business in a retail center near 69th and Western offers cheesecake by the slice, or takes orders for whole desserts. Part of the proceeds will go to local Scouts.

The sixth annual Mash Madness has kicked off, celebrating craft beer in downtown Sioux Falls. Five breweries are competing for the title, with beer drinkers rating their favorites all month. Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars has a sour ale conditioned on strawberries, cherries, graham crackers and cheesecake. Fernson Brewing Co. used light roast coffee beans from The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. along with Ceylon cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla and powdered brown sugar caramel. Remedy Brewing Co. made a sour beer conditioned on huckleberry, blueberry, graham crackers and vanilla. Severance Brewing Co. – last year’s winner – has teamed up with Scooter’s Coffee for a golden ale made with Scooter Doodle coffee. WoodGrain Brewing Co.’s kettle-soured ale has lemon, grapefruit, key lime, fruit punch and lactose. Get all the details here.

Another local brewery that’s not downtown is celebrating its annual Big Beer Week, starting Sunday. Lupulin Brewing Co. offers eight days of new beer releases that are all 10 percent-plus ABV. Get the entire list of releases and how to earn a Big Beer Week T-shirt here.

The March feature menu at Tinners Public House offers several specials that will appeal to those abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent. Diners can choose from fish tacos, parmesan-crusted white fish and a shrimp po’boy. The special flatbread for the month is Spicy Pork Carnitas. If you didn’t give up dessert for Lent, finish your meal with strawberry cheesecake.

Through Sunday, Wileys is donating $1 from every Titos vodka sale to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. Donations will go to Global Empowerment Mission, which is in Poland assisting refugees, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which is helping animal shelters in Ukraine that have been inundated with pets who are either lost or no longer have a home.

Lobsterfest is back at Red Lobster, with two new dishes in addition to the return of customer favorites. The Date Night Feast for Two includes two butter-poached Maine lobster tails, two 7-ounce sirloins, two jumbo grilled shrimp skewers, a sharable Bacon Mac & Cheese, a choice of one side for each person and, of course, Cheddar Bay Biscuits. The Lobster Topped Stuffed Flounder comes with two sides. The new Lobster Punch is made with Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and Malibu Coconut Rum with pineapple and berry juices.

On special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Sunny’s Pizzeria has dimmed the lights in the dining room. That has been bringing in a crowd, so the neighborhood pizza joint at 26th and Walts is offering Sunny’s After Dark every Thursday this month. From 7 to 10 p.m., they’re turning down the lights and turning up the music. Tonight is ’90s hip hop, and next week is R&B.

Any Lucky Charms fans out there? Cold Stone Creamery’s Lucky Charms Ice Cream is back for a limited time. Try it in the End of the Rainbow Creation or the Sprinkled With Charms Shake.

Applebee’s monthly $5 drink specials are a St. Patrick’s Day celebration that keeps on going. The new Tipsy Leprechaun, is a top-shelf tea featuring Jameson Irish Whiskey. The Pot O’ Gold Colada, is a frozen drink made with Captain Morgan and mango.
