Restaurant Roundup: Bing Avalanches, new farmers market, summer cocktails

Twin Bing fans: The seasonal Bing Avalanches are back at B&G Milkyway starting Friday.
A new farmers market with homegrown and homemade products starts Saturday at Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea. The event will be held every week from 8 to 11 a.m. through Sept. 25, except for Labor Day weekend. The first week will include sweet corn, honey, furniture, tumblers and Bryan Boys for Hope T-shirts. All proceeds from the market’s $25 vendor fee will go to Bryan Boys for Hope. The two sons of Beau and JeanAnn Bryan have been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Anyone interested in being a vendor is asked to contact co-owner Andrea Kuipers at [email protected].
If you’re tired of the same old summer cocktails, PAve has new ones to try on Wednesdays. The 24-ounce “Thunderstick” drinks come in seven varieties.
Want to learn how to make your own kombucha? The new Gist Wine Shop downtown on 11th Street is offering a homebrewing demonstration and tasting workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The $40 fee includes a “mother” to start a batch of tea at home. Kombucha kits also will be available for purchase. Owner Mel Guse’s sister, Ky, a doctoral student in human nutrition and a microbiome researcher at the University of Minnesota, will teach the class. Buy a ticket here.
Taco John’s is adding cold-brew coffee to its menu Aug. 2. The $2 drink will come in vanilla or mocha flavors.
The annual Dell Rapids Wine & Wander is Friday. The event is downtown on the street filled with historic quartzite buildings. Enjoy South Dakota wines, local craft beer, food, live music and activities. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Here’s just a sampling of the wines that will be available.

- M.B. Haskett is closed until 7 a.m. Aug. 11. According to a post on social media, “After one heck of a year, we are closing the restaurant for a couple of weeks for a little facilities maintenance and some much-needed rest and recreation.”
- Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is closed until Aug. 16. Owner Sanaa Abourezk said she’s giving her staff a “well-deserved vacation, and I get to see my family in Syria.”
