Sioux Falls-based The Ramkota Companies has a larger presence in Fargo to begin the year.

The company has become the general partner in the Four Points by Sheraton Fargo Medical Center and the Hampton Inn & Suites Fargo Medical Center.

“While Fargo wasn’t necessarily a market we’d identified where we wanted to go, the opportunity that presented itself really made sense and allowed us to grow our footprint in that market,” said Josh Schmaltz, president and CEO of hotel owner The Ramkota Companies.

Ramkota has plans for both newly acquired properties, which join ClubHouse Hotel & Suites to give the company three hotels in the market.

“With Four Points, we’ll do more of a refresh with paint and carpet and refresh the bathrooms, similar to some of the exciting renovations we have planned at our ClubHouse location in the market,” Schmaltz said.

“We’ll update all the public space, including some options we have available for smaller events and meetings.”

The property includes a pool, fitness center and full breakfast.

With the Hampton, “it’s a major renovation,” he said. “We’re going to be replacing essentially everything: case goods, soft goods, flooring, bathrooms. It will be fully gutted.”

The hotel includes a pool, fitness center and free hot breakfast.

The renovation work is scheduled to happen this year.

Both 90-room hotels benefit from proximity to the Sanford Medical Center.

“They’re right across from Sanford, so we’re really going to cater to medical guests, people coming in for appointments and families potentially staying there multiple nights,” Schmaltz said.

Overall, “Fargo is very similar to Sioux Falls. They’re two great markets,” he continued. “There are great health care and banking sectors, plus the university system. These hotels are in an area of the community that’s grown incredibly fast.”

The moves follow a solid 2025 for The Ramkota Companies, especially given overall softness in the hospitality market.

“We can’t complain,” Schmaltz said. “When you look at what’s going on nationwide, things for us are going well. The destination market in western South Dakota did well, we had a great year at Custer State Park and in Deadwood, we got the ClubHouse open in Rapid City, and we’re looking forward to a full year with that.”

The company is projecting a similar year ahead.

“It’s similar to what I’m hearing from others in the tourism industry,” Schmaltz said. “We’ve got some new improvements we’re excited about, and we think if we can put together a year that’s similar to 2025, by and large everybody would be pretty happy.”
