Prairie Family Business Association honors top family businesses at annual Sioux Falls conference
April 23, 2026
Three multigenerational family businesses, including two based in Sioux Falls, were recognized for leadership and long-term impact during the Prairie Family Business Association’s annual conference this week.
The awards were presented as part of the organization’s 34th annual Family Business Conference, which drew more than 500 attendees from 18 states April 22-23 at the Canopy by Hilton hotel. The event brought together first- through fifth-generation family business leaders to focus on succession, governance and sustaining companies across generations.
The annual conference featured six nationally recognized speakers, including keynote presenters Stephanie Stuckey, the CEO of Stuckey’s, and Jodi Berg, the former CEO and fourth-generation leader of Vitamix.
Family-owned businesses play a significant role in the regional and national economy, making leadership transition and long-term continuity critical issues for communities, employees and future generations.
As part of the conference, PFBA presented three annual awards recognizing excellence in multigenerational leadership, business success and community impact.
The Lloyd All-In Award was presented to the Russell family of Cloverdale Foods in Mandan, North Dakota. The award, created in honor of Craig and Pat Lloyd’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023, recognizes a family that goes “all-in” on both its business and engagement with PFBA. Cloverdale Foods is a supplier of premium pork and beef products.
The Heritage Award was presented to the Jones family of Maguire in Sioux Falls, recognizing a business operating for 75 years or more. Founded in 1915 and acquired by the Jones family in 1958, Maguire is a leader in potable water storage services and water tower construction. Today, the second generation of the Jones family leads the business.
The Vicki Clarke Family Business of the Year Award was presented to the Austad family of Austad’s Golf in Sioux Falls. The award honors a family business that demonstrates lasting impact through community involvement, employee investment and sustained growth. Founded in 1963, Austad’s Golf is a Midwest golf equipment retailer with second- and third-generation family members active in the business.
“Family businesses carry a responsibility that goes well beyond the balance sheet,” said Eric Erickson, executive director of PFBA. “The decisions made today impact not only the current generation but those who came before and those who will follow.”
PFBA will continue its work throughout the year with peer groups, retreats and educational programming designed to support family-owned businesses at every stage. The 35th annual Family Business Conference is scheduled for April 28-29, 2027, in Sioux Falls.
